LB Dah-Quan Edrington (Virginia University of Lynchburg) Interview - NFL Draft Blitz

LB Dah-Quan Edrington (Virginia University of Lynchburg) Interview

Dah-Quan Edrington – Linebacker – Virginia University of Lynchburg

Alex Khvatov:  What are your measurements (height, weight and forty time)?

Dah-Quan Edrington:  6’2, 205, 4.58.

Alex Khvatov:  Where will you be training for the NFL Draft?

Dah-Quan Edrington:  I have numerous options.  I have trainers at home.  Coach JJ and coach Marty were my high school coaches.  Also coach Roy and coach Aaron that I just got introduced to this year.  I always can train with my strength and conditioning coach at the school.  I have no excuse at all.  The opportunity is here.  I’m going to attack.  No days off.

Alex Khvatov:  Coming out of high school, what programs showed interest in you?

Dah-Quan Edrington:  Coming out of high school, I had a couple of colleges looking.  SC State, Liberty University, Averett University and the Apprentice School.

Alex Khvatov:  Why did you choose Virginia University of Lynchburg?

Dah-Quan Edrington:  Coming out of high school I didn’t have the grades.  My SAT scores being interchangeable with my grade point average, I wasn’t qualified for a division I scholarship.  So i gave up and lost faith.  I started working at a welding factory for a year.  One afternoon, I got a call from a former Virginia University Lynchburg head coach.  Coach Palmer gave me an opportunity to get back on the field and further my education.  Long story short, I earned a scholarship.  It wasn’t a given, but I didn’t look back since then.

Alex Khvatov:  What did you learn the most from your head coach Bobby Rome?

Dah-Quan Edrington:  Anytime you display hustle or display hard work or display your work ethic, it says a lot about how far you’ll go to achieve your goals.

Alex Khvatov:  Tell us about your overall experience at the National Bowl all-star game.

Dah-Quan Edrington:  It felt like a dream come true.  Seeing all the NFL and CFL scouts, even the measuring process.  They were at the practices looking and doing interviews.  Agents were out there.  It was just amazing.  Something you can’t forget.  The opportunity is here, and I just have to attack.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the biggest thing that you will take away from that weekend?

Dah-Quan Edrington:  Opportunities do come.

Alex Khvatov:  Who is the best player that you faced at the National Bowl?

Dah-Quan Edrington:  Everyone was great.  I just can’t only pick one. That wouldn’t be right.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your strengths?

Dah-Quan Edrington:  High positive energy.  Being that leader everyone looks up to.  Also I will bring my versatility.  You can put me anywhere on the field and I’ll get the job done.  I just want to win.

Alex Khvatov:  What areas of your game are you trying to improve upon?

Dah-Quan Edrington:  One area I need to improve on is getting more INT’s.  Also getting off blocks.

Alex Khvatov:  Describe your overall career.

Dah-Quan Edrington:  Coming to Virginia University of Lynchburg my freshman year, I earned a starting spot on the defense and special teams.  I got thrown in the fire early.  I played mostly everything on the defense except cornerback and free safety.  We were an independent school at the time, so we played against a variety of talent.  We really didn’t have the resources like other schools, so we had to grind for everything.  The true struggle fueled me.  It made me realize I have to maximize every opportunity I get.  When it does come I must, and I will be ready.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the highlight of your career up to this point?

Dah-Quan Edrington:  This year, my first game back from a hamstring injury.  We played Fort Valley State University.  I got 14 tackles and a fumble recovery.  I believe that was my best game.

Alex Khvatov:  What is your favorite NFL team?

Dah-Quan Edrington:  I will have to go with the home team – NY Giants of course!!

Alex Khvatov:  Who is your favorite NFL player?

Dah-Quan Edrington:  I have a couple, but I’ll say Sean Taylor.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the most important trait for a LB?

Dah-Quan Edrington:  I will say not only knowing your position, but also knowing everyone’s position on the defense.  It’ll make you play much faster.  You’re the voice of the defense.

Alex Khvatov:  What players on your team should we keep an eye on next season?

Dah-Quan Edrington:  We have a couple dogs on our team, a whole bunch of talent.  It’s going to be hard to only choose one.

Alex Khvatov:  Who is the best player that you have faced during your college career?

Dah-Quan Edrington:  I can’t say who the best player was.  Carson Newman was the best team.  They were killing us with that wing T formation.

Alex Khvatov:  What do you enjoy most about football?

Dah-Quan Edrington:  Hearing my name & number get called on the loud speaker.  Also see what hard work and dedication can do when you put in that work in the offseason.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your hobbies?

Dah-Quan Edrington:  Hanging with family.  I love to travel, also play the game from time to time whenever I have the chance.

Alex Khvatov:  What do you want to do with your life after your football career is over?

Dah-Quan Edrington:  Good question!  I would like to open up my own welding/construction company.  I’m already certified in welding straight out of high school.  Also I would like to do real estate on the side with my mother.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the biggest lesson that you have learned in life so far?

Dah-Quan Edrington:  Don’t take anything for granted.

Alex Khvatov:  What is your definition of a leader?

Dah-Quan Edrington:  If it’s lonely at the top, you’re not doing something right.  Being a leader is a trust, not a right.  Also being accountable to someone other than myself.  I believe that decision will help keep me on track and able to help myself and others.

Alex Khvatov:  What three words best describe you?

Dah-Quan Edrington:  Confident, strong and focused.

Alex Khvatov:  Who will win the National Championship in CFB this year?

Dah-Quan Edrington:  I have to go with Alabama.  Their defense is vicious.

Alex Khvatov:  Who will win Super Bowl LIII in February?

Dah-Quan Edrington:  I want my Giants to win it, but it’s not looking too good.  But the Pittsburgh Steelers are looking good.  They have my vote.
