Alex Khvatov: What are your measurements (height, weight and forty time)?
Josiah Maglente-Tonu: 6’5, 300 and 5.3 unofficially.
Alex Khvatov: Where will you be training for the NFL Draft?
Josiah Maglente-Tonu: I will be training with Arron Woods at Grind Time Fitness in Beaverton, Oregon and also with Line Pro.
Alex Khvatov: Describe your overall experience at the FCS Bowl all-star game in Daytona Beach, FL.
Josiah Maglente-Tonu: The overall experience of the FCS all-star game in Daytona Beach, Florida was amazing especially coming from a small school. It was very fun to go against different competition.
Alex Khvatov: What is the biggest thing that you will take away from that weekend?
Josiah Maglente-Tonu: The biggest thing I would take from that weekend was the experience and also playing with top talent from around the country.
Alex Khvatov: Who was the best player that you have faced at the FCS Bowl?
Josiah Maglente-Tonu: I would say for me they all were good, but by saying that it only made me better. It made me rise to a new level.
Alex Khvatov: Coming out of high school, what programs showed interest in
you?
Josiah Maglente-Tonu: Coming out of high school, I really had no interest. I was talking with Joe Salave’a when he was at Washington State.
Alex Khvatov: Why did you choose to go to JUCO?
Josiah Maglente-Tonu: I chose to go to Juco because they gave me an opportunity to further my education and play the game that I love.
Alex Khvatov: Why did you decide to transfer to Southern Oregon?
Josiah Maglente-Tonu: I decided to transfer to Southern Oregon because the family like atmosphere and also I was able to put my hand in the dirt and play DE.
Alex Khvatov: How difficult was it to make the transition from the DL to
OL your senior year of college?
Josiah Maglente-Tonu: I wouldn’t say difficult, but it was a challenge. I took that challenge and ran with it. I have learned so much. But I know the road doesn’t end here, I want to be able to learn more and become an all-time great.
Alex Khvatov: What are your strengths?
Josiah Maglente-Tonu: My strengths are being athletic, able to run out in space and being able to play anywhere.
Alex Khvatov: What areas of your game are you trying to improve upon?
Josiah Maglente-Tonu: The areas of my game that I’m trying to improve on are staying balanced in my pass sets and also being patient.
Alex Khvatov: Describe your overall career to us.
Josiah Maglente-Tonu: My overall career was a fun one! From playing TE to playing tackle. I’ve learned so much about football and how the game itself made me a better man.
Alex Khvatov: What is your biggest accomplishment that you are most proud of?
Josiah Maglente-Tonu: The biggest accomplishment that I am most proud of is making 1st team All-Conference and doing it playing O-line my first year ever.
Alex Khvatov: What is the highlight of your career up to this point?
Josiah Maglente-Tonu: My highlight would be getting a pick six last year when I was playing DT.
Alex Khvatov: What have you learned the most from your coaching staff?
Josiah Maglente-Tonu: I’ve learned so much from our coaching staff. But one thing that will always stick with me is how honest they were throughout the time I was there.
Alex Khvatov: What is your favorite NFL team?
Josiah Maglente-Tonu: San Francisco 49ers.
Alex Khvatov: Who is your favorite NFL player?
Josiah Maglente-Tonu: Lane Johnson.
Alex Khvatov: What is the most important trait for an OL?
Josiah Maglente-Tonu: The most important is trust. If you trust the person next to you and the person next to them… then that O-line group is a hard force to beat.
Alex Khvatov: Before the ball is snapped, what are the tendencies that
you are looking for from the defense?
Josiah Maglente-Tonu: Before the ball is snapped, I look at where the safeties are first. Then the linebackers, whether they are over or under. Then I focus on the man that I am blocking or who is in my zone and look at the stance and tilt of the player.
Alex Khvatov: What players on your team should we keep an eye on for next
season?
Josiah Maglente-Tonu: Parker Randle, Austin May and Ben Robbins.
Alex Khvatov: Who is the toughest player that you have faced on an
opposing team?
Josiah Maglente-Tonu: I would say Conner Wines from Montana Tech.
Alex Khvatov: What do you enjoy most about football?
Josiah Maglente-Tonu: I enjoy all the game planning and all the film watching and even practice. It’s crazy to think, but we put in all the work throughout the week to play a three-hour game on Saturday. That’s what I love about football.
Alex Khvatov: Who is your biggest role model and why?
Josiah Maglente-Tonu: I would say my biggest role model is my whole family because they have been through a lot, but always find a way to make it work.
Alex Khvatov: What is your definition of a leader?
Josiah Maglente-Tonu: My definition of a leader is not leading on whoever has the loudest voice or whoever takes advantage of having that title of a leader, but being able to lead by example and always doing the right thing.
Alex Khvatov: What are your hobbies?
Josiah Maglente-Tonu: If I’m not lifting or working on O-line techniques, then I’m surfing, hunting or fishing.
Alex Khvatov: What do you want to do with your life after your football
career is over?
Josiah Maglente-Tonu: I don’t really have a plan yet, I’m putting all my focus and energy in playing the sport I love and that is football.
Alex Khvatov: What five words best describe you?
Josiah Maglente-Tonu: Leader, hard worker, strong minded, reliable and consistent.
Alex Khvatov: Who will win the National Championship in CFB this year?
Josiah Maglente-Tonu: I’m going to have to go with Alabama because of my boy Tua.
Alex Khvatov: Who will win Super Bowl LIII in February?
Josiah Maglente-Tonu: The team who invests the most will come out with the Lombardi.
