WR Sean Modster (Boise State) Interview - NFL Draft Blitz

WR Sean Modster (Boise State) Interview

Sean Modster
Wide Receiver
Boise State

Ed Hunt:  What are your measurements? (Height, weight and 40 time)

Sean Modster:  I’m 5’10 3/4, 189lbs and I don’t know my 40 time.

Ed Hunt:  I noticed you are good at coming up with the ball in traffic.  How do you develop that focus?

Sean Modster:  It goes back to practice.  My receivers’ coach at Boise State said when the ball is in the air, the only thing that matters is catching the ball.

Ed Hunt:  Describe your overall experience at the Tropical Bowl.

Sean Modster:  I’m very thankful for the opportunity.

Ed Hunt:  What is the biggest thing you can take away from the Tropical Bowl?

Sean Modster:  Exposure to scouts.  It was good to get feedback from scouts.

Ed Hunt:  Who is the best player you have faced at the Tropical Bowl?

Sean Modster:  It was the wide receiver from TCU Jaelan Austin.

Ed Hunt:  Who is the best player you have faced on an opposing team?

Sean Modster:  A good opponent was Oklahoma State.  San Diego State this season was the toughest.

Ed Hunt:  Coming out of high school, which schools showed interest in you?

Sean Modster:  Several from the Mountain West.  Mainly Boise State and Colorado.

Ed Hunt:  What made you ultimately choose Boise State?

Sean Modster:  It was the first school to show interest in me.  I got into a summer camp there and I performed.  They offered me a scholarship and I committed two weeks after.

Ed Hunt:  What are your strengths?

Sean Modster:  I’m quick and detailed in how I play.  I am very fundamentally sound.  I am able to create separation.  I am able to read the coverage before the snap.  I am also good with my hands.

Ed Hunt:  What areas of your game are you trying to improve upon?

Sean Modster:  I am really focused on learning an NFL playbook.  We ran a pro-style offense at Boise State, so I am familiar with the concepts, but I need to learn the terminology.

Ed Hunt:  Describe your overall career.

Sean Modster:  I did start off my career not getting the spotlight and that humbled me.  I couldn’t just rely on talent.  I had to focus in meeting rooms and the weight room.  I am so grateful for this opportunity.  I learned to be patient.  I got more playing time my senior year.  I had 68 catches for 978 yards.

Ed Hunt:  What is the highlight of your career at this point?

Sean Modster:  Being on the team.  Buying into the culture.  Everything coach Harsin shared with us.  I look forward to that in a new team.

Ed Hunt:  I noticed you return punts.  Is that something you will do at the next level?

Sean Modster:  I never got my opportunity to return punts in college, but I will do it if the team needs me.  I did it in high school.

Ed Hunt:  What have you learned the most from your coaching staff?

Sean Modster:  Junior Adams (former Boise State WR Coach) was 100% real with me.  He taught me about getting my life together.  Coach Kiesaw (former Boise State WR coach) took it to another level with technique.  I learned about being flexible with the offense and how to be put in any situation.

Ed Hunt:  What can you tell me about Brett Rypien?

Sean Modster:  He is a very competitive leader on and off the field.  We play pool all the time.  He is a natural born leader and a smart guy.  One of my good friends.  He would always step up to the plate.  Very driven and motivated.

Ed Hunt:  Is there a role you have played on special teams thus far in your career other than punt returner?

Sean Modster:  I was on kickoff return playing left tackle.  I also got in on kickoffs.

Ed Hunt:  What is your favorite NFL team?

Sean Modster:  I never had one.  I admired the Denver Broncos because of John Elway.

Ed Hunt:  Who is your favorite NFL player?

Sean Modster:  I compare myself to Odell Beckham because he is smooth in his routes.

Ed Hunt:  What’s the most important trait for a WR?

Sean Modster:  You got to be hungry and competitive.  When you play, its either him or you.

Ed Hunt:  Before the ball is snapped, what tendencies are you looking for in that defense?

Sean Modster:  Starting from the meeting room, we have third down situations and we have to have the right plays.  Once the huddle is broken, safeties will tell you everything.  The coverage is the first thing I want to know.  I also look at the corner and see how he is playing me.

Ed Hunt:  What players on your team should we keep an eye on for next season?

Sean Modster:  There’s too many.  Chase Cord.  He showed that he is a dual threat QB.  On his first touch in college, he scored.  John Hightower and Akilian Butler. Khalil Shakir.  The whole O-line is coming back.  We always produce good running backs.  You got to watch out for everybody.  We strive to be the best.

Ed Hunt:  What do you enjoy most about football?

Sean Modster:  Playing the game.  I look forward to learning offenses.  That helps me play fast and quick and that goes on to a win.  We are situational masters.  We are winners.

Ed Hunt:  Who is your biggest role model and why?

Sean Modster:  My dad.  He did a very good job of handling me as a little kid.  The one thing I learned from him is the details.  I observed hard work from my dad.  He is a firefighter.  He has spent twenty plus years in the department.

Ed Hunt:  What is your definition of a leader?

Sean Modster:  Doing things nobody else wants to do.

Ed Hunt:  What do you want to do with your life after football?

Sean Modster:  I’m graduating with a general business degree.  I always liked putting things together.  I loved working on houses with my dad.  I renovated my house.  I grew a passion for putting together homes.  I want to build and design homes.

Ed Hunt:  What five words best describe you?

Sean Modster:  Faithful, relentless, creative, selfless and competitive.

Ed Hunt:  Who will win the Super Bowl this year?

Sean Modster:  Patriots because they have a process going for them and they are not going to let anyone get in the way of their process.  They never set a limit to themselves.
