S Andrew Wingard (Wyoming) Pro Day Interview - NFL Draft Blitz

S Andrew Wingard (Wyoming) Pro Day Interview

Andrew Wingard
Safety
Wyoming

Ed Hunt:  How did you feel out there during your Pro Day?

Andrew Wingard:  It was good.  It was a little sore from the combine.  Quick turnaround.  But it felt really good.  I did better in my three-cone drill.

Ed Hunt:  Would you say you are more of a deep safety?

Andrew Wingard:  I truly believe I could do both.  I played a lot of strong safety the last two years, but I played high my first two years.  I feel that I am really versatile.  I know I can do it all.  But if I were to pinpoint, I would play in the box more.  I ran well at the combine and I proved that I can play sideline to sideline.

Ed Hunt:  Have you had to cover tight ends while you were in college?

Andrew Wingard:  Yeah, I was the box guy, so I was covering tight ends and slots basically every time we were in man.  Every time, we were rolling to my side.  So I have a lot of experience covering tight ends and I feel comfortable doing it.

Ed Hunt:  What have you done on special teams?

Andrew Wingard:  I have played on every special teams’ unit.  I didn’t play as much special teams when I became a starter.  I played every snap at safety at Wyoming.  But I know when I get in camp, I will be playing all special teams.  I know I will be able to do really well at special teams, so I think that’ll help me.

Ed Hunt:  What would you say are your strengths?

Andrew Wingard:  I would say just being an eraser.  Making tackles that a lot of other guys can’t make and just being a lot smarter than a lot of other guys with my instincts.  Just giving the defense a place to stand and not giving up big plays.

Ed Hunt:  Is there one thing you are trying to work on between now and draft day?

Andrew Wingard:  Yeah, it’s always playing man to man.  Like you said, covering tight ends, covering slots, that’s how you get paid in the league.  You have to be able to cover and run.  That’s always what I am working on.
