Brad Dennis
Punter
Campbell University
Alex Khvatov: What are your measurements (height, weight and forty time)?
Brad Dennis: I’m 6’2 and 220, and I don’t have a current forty time.
Alex Khvatov: Describe your overall experience at the FCS Bowl in Daytona Beach, FL.
Brad Dennis: I thought it was a great time getting to showcase my punting talents in front of scouts. I also got my first attempts to punt an NFL ball, which was a lot easier than I expected. Overall, it was a great experience.
Alex Khvatov: Coming out of high school, what programs showed interest in you?
Brad Dennis: Coming out of high school, I was being recruited by Shippensburg University in PA, but I decided that the best route for me was to attend Jireh Prep in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Alex Khvatov: Why did you choose Campbell University?
Brad Dennis: I loved the small-town atmosphere and how small the classes were. It was important for me in deciding where I wanted to go, and I also loved the coaches and the connection that I built with them during recruitment.
Alex Khvatov: What are your strengths?
Brad Dennis: I think my strengths are directional punting and knowing how to use the field to my advantage and how to make sure that the other team doesn’t have a great return opportunity.
Alex Khvatov: What areas of your game are you trying to improve upon?
Brad Dennis: I think my biggest flaw is learning how to punt Aussie style and being able to have a five second hang time while doing it.
Alex Khvatov: Tell us about your overall career.
Brad Dennis: To keep it short after having a rough first year starting and getting all my mistakes out of the way, I came back my second year starting and had a great season breaking school records and a Big South record and receiving first team Big South Honors. During my last season, I ended up having to punt from midfield a majority of the time, lowering my average, which helped me break another school record with punts inside the 20. I was also able to break a career record for the Big South this year, too, for the best punting average over 100 punts.
Alex Khvatov: What is the highlight of your career up to this point?
Brad Dennis: I think it would have to be holding for my best friend Colin Gary’s last second field goal attempt to beat Davidson. It was a once in a lifetime experience that I’ll never forget.
Alex Khvatov: What is your biggest accomplishment in college that you are most proud of?
Brad Dennis: I think my desire to play because I had to sit behind someone my first two years in college after starting in high school and prep school. It was a really different experience for me and made me question if I really loved football or not. I’m proud of this because I didn’t quit, and I didn’t give up, which means a lot to me.
Alex Khvatov: What is the most important trait for a punter?
Brad Dennis: I think being able to shake off a mistake is the most important trait because, as a punter, sometimes you might only get a couple of chances to play in a game. If you make a mistake, you cannot let that define you for the rest of the game.
Alex Khvatov: What is your favorite NFL team?
Brad Dennis: The Pittsburgh Steelers.
Alex Khvatov: Who is your favorite NFL player?
Brad Dennis: Currently playing would be Thomas Morstead for the Saints. He is a great guy and retired would be Pat McAfee. I mean who doesn’t love that guy.
Alex Khvatov: What players on your team should we keep an eye on for next season?
Brad Dennis: QB- Hajj-Malik Williams, WR- Caleb Snead, WR- Cedric Frazier LB- Justice Galloway and we have a lot of young guys that will continue to grow over time.
Alex Khvatov: Who is the toughest player that you have faced on an
opposing team?
Brad Dennis: Kyle Reighard is probably the best punter I’ve ever played against in college.
Alex Khvatov: What do you enjoy most about football?
Brad Dennis: What I enjoy most would have to be the relationships that you build with your teammates who become some of your best friends in life.
Alex Khvatov: What is your definition of a leader?
Brad Dennis: A leader to me is someone that doesn’t have to try to be a leader, and people follow them because they do the right things and hold themselves to a higher standard than others.
Alex Khvatov: What are your hobbies?
Brad Dennis: When I have the time to do it, I really enjoy refurbishing furniture and antiques and selling them.
Alex Khvatov: What do you want to do with your life after your football career is over?
Brad Dennis: I want to work for the federal government hopefully with the DEA one day.
Alex Khvatov: What five words best describe you?
Brad Dennis: Determined, dedicated, reliable, responsible and funny.
