Zach Edwards
Quarterback
College of St. Scholastica

Alex Khvatov:  What are your measurements (height, weight and forty time)?

Zach Edwards:  6’3”, 215 lbs and 4.85.

Alex Khvatov:  Describe your overall experience at the FCS Bowl in Daytona Beach, FL.

Zach Edwards:  It was an amazing opportunity for myself to get exposed to phenomenal players from all over the country.  It was a lot of fun getting to know all the guys down there, and compete with some of the best football players in the country. Great learning experience for me and very blessed for the time spent down there.

Alex Khvatov:  What was it like to win the MVP award at the FCS Bowl?

Zach Edwards:  Truly a blessing, I was fortunate to have some really good athletes and ball players around me that allowed me to perform how I did.  Thankful I got the chance to go down there and prove that I could compete with players at that level.

Alex Khvatov:  Coming out of high school, what programs showed interest in you?

Zach Edwards:  I had no offers out of high school, had the opportunity to potential walk on at some local D-II schools in Minnesota, but decided to look more into the local D-III schools.  I spoke with coaches from UW Stout, UWRF, Hamline, Augsburg, Macalester, UW-Lacrosse, Gustavus and obviously St. Scholastica.

Alex Khvatov:  Why did you choose College of St. Scholastica?

Zach Edwards:  When I took my visits there, I felt as if they truly wanted me to be a part of their program and would do their best to help me grow and become a better man and football player.  I also felt that I had a good opportunity to play a lot over my four years and that is something that was big on my priority list.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your strengths?

Zach Edwards:  I would say my main strengths are athleticism, preparation, football IQ and arm strength.

Alex Khvatov:  What areas of your game are you trying to improve upon?

Zach Edwards:  Getting better at accepting that the defense made a good play and being able to throw the ball away and play the next play.

Alex Khvatov:  Tell us about your overall career.

Zach Edwards:  My career at CSS had its ups and downs, but it ended very well.  The program went through some adversity with multiple coaching changes, but we always managed to have solid seasons, but never as great as we knew they could be.  This past year and a half, we began to flip our culture and turn our program that is now.  Overall, it was a fantastic experience where I met some really good friends and learned from some great coaches.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the highlight of your career up to this point?

Zach Edwards:  Beating Mayville State in OT after rallying from down 19 in the 3rd quarter.

Alex Khvatov:  What is your biggest accomplishment in college that you are most proud of?

Zach Edwards:  Finding the balance between football and school and making the dean’s list multiple times while being able to make an impact on the field for my teammates.

Alex Khvatov:  What was the biggest thing that you took away from your coaching staff?

Zach Edwards:  How to prepare.  I wanted to be a student of the game and learn how professionals work and prepare for football games.  They taught me how to gameplan, how to practice, how to watch film, how to be a leader, how to read defenses and so much more.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the most important trait for a QB?

Zach Edwards:  Knowledge.  Being knowledgeable in terms of knowing your playbook, knowing your teammates, knowing your opponents, knowing the situation and knowing how to prepare.

Alex Khvatov:  What is your favorite NFL team?

Zach Edwards:  Minnesota Vikings.

Alex Khvatov:  Who is your favorite NFL player?

Zach Edwards:  Deshaun Watson.

Alex Khvatov:  Before the ball is snapped, what are the tendencies that you are looking for from the defense?

Zach Edwards:  Where the safeties are.  Coach always told me that corners lie and safeties tell the truth, I can tell a lot by the alignment of the safeties.  Everything from possible coverages to possible blitzes.

Alex Khvatov:  What players on your team should we keep an eye on for next season?

Zach Edwards:  Mitchell Adrian, a young slot receiver with lots of talent.

Alex Khvatov:  Who is the toughest player that you have faced on an opposing team?

Zach Edwards:  Javon Muhammad, defensive end for MacMurray.

Alex Khvatov:  What do you enjoy most about football?

Zach Edwards:  I love competing, lining up against another team and fighting with your brothers to show who wants it more and coming out victorious.

Alex Khvatov:  What is your definition of a leader?

Zach Edwards:  Somebody that sets and exemplifies a winning and professional standard and culture.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your hobbies?

Zach Edwards:  I love to draw, work out, listen to music and spend time with my family and friends.

Alex Khvatov:  What do you want to do with your life after your football career is over?

Zach Edwards:  I would love to coach football.  The game has done so much for me, it has brought me so many great friends and mentors.  I don’t think I’ll ever be able to put it down.

Alex Khvatov:  What five words best describe you?

Zach Edwards:  Poised, passionate, mentally strong, knowledgeable and driven.
