OL Darryl Williams (Mississippi State) Shrine Bowl Interview

Darryl Williams

Offensive Lineman

Mississippi State

Alex Khvatov:  How would you describe your overall experience at the 2020 East/West Shrine Bowl?

Darryl Williams:  It was an up-tempo practice.  It was great.  Getting back in the groove.  Going up against some great players.  Being physical.

Alex Khvatov:  What was it like to go up against some of the D-linemen in the one on one’s?

Darryl Williams:  I won 2 reps out of 3 today.  I went up against Joe (Gaziano) and Agim from Arkansas.  I did a good job today.  I tried to compete at a high level with each and every rep.

Alex Khvatov:  Tell me about your career at Mississippi State.

Darryl Williams:  I accomplished a lot.  I got better with my communication and my leadership as I got older.  Being a vocal leader, being nasty and physical.  Going up there and competing at a high level each and every day.  I improved my game.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your strengths?

Darryl Williams:  Run blocking, nastiness and effort.  I do things with a purpose.  My attitude.  Doing the little things right.  My work ethic.  Working hard.  I compete at a high level.

Alex Khvatov:  What areas of your game are you trying to improve upon?

Darryl Williams:  Bending my hips.  Using my arms better.  I tend to grow in every aspect.

Alex Khvatov:  What do you think new head coach Mike Leach will bring to Mississippi State?

Darryl Williams:  Mike Leach has a gameplan.  He is one of the great offensive minds in CFB.  He will make guys compete at a high level.  They continue to grow and get better as a unit.

Alex Khvatov:  Who was the best DL that you went up against during your career?

Darryl Williams:  I went up against a lot of good players.  Against the Florida guys, Daron Payne and Derrick Brown.  The best guy that I went up against was Jeffery Simmons.  He played at Mississippi State and now he is with the Titans.  He was a dominant force.  He came to work each and every day.  He made compete at each practice.

Alex Khvatov:  You are following in the footsteps of your former teammate, OL Elgton Jenkins who had a great year with the Packers.  Do you feel any pressure?

Darryl Williams:  There is no pressure.  I am just going to go up there and work my tail off.  He taught me a lot.  He told me to just compete at a high level.  Don’t give up and get better at the little things.

Alex Khvatov:  What one word best describes you?

Darryl Williams:  Aggressive.  I play physical and with a purpose.  I work my tail off each and every rep.
