OL Calvin Throckmorton (Oregon) Shrine Bowl Interview

Calvin Throckmorton

Offensive Lineman / Oregon

Alex Khvatov:  How would you describe your overall experience at the 2020 East/West Shrine Bowl?

Calvin Throckmorton:  It’s really cool to be around an awesome group of guys.  Just being able to go out there, compete and play against some of the best talent in the nation.

Alex Khvatov:  Tell us about your O-line teammates at Oregon.

Calvin Throckmorton:  Incredible group of guys.  They busted their butts in the offseason.  We wanted to be as prepared as possible.  We tried to attack the defense and try to be as dominant as we could.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your strengths?

Calvin Throckmorton:  I bring a lot of versatility.  I am able to switch positions and slide on the O-line wherever I am needed.  I would like to think that I do it at a high level.

Alex Khvatov:  What position do you see yourself playing at the next level?

Calvin Throckmorton:  I say RT because that is where I have spent the majority of my career.  I spent 12 games there this past season.  I feel really good sliding around.

Alex Khvatov:  Who was the toughest OL to go up against in practice today?

Calvin Throckmorton:  My dude from Utah (John Penisini).  He was always a tough guy to go up against.  The guy from Baylor (Roy Bravvion) was really strong at the point of attack.  This is a good group, and we will try to make each other better this week.

Alex Khvatov:  What areas of your game do you need to improve upon this week?

Calvin Throckmorton:  Overall functional strength and flexibility.  I need to make sure that I am really strong.  I want to be able to drive guys off the ball.

Alex Khvatov:  Where are you currently training for the NFL Draft?

Calvin Throckmorton:  Michael Johnson Performance in McKinney, Texas.

Alex Khvatov:  Why did you decide to go to Texas to train?

Calvin Throckmorton:  I am from Bellevue, Washington.  I knew an OL coach who cooperates with that facility.  The familiarity.

Alex Khvatov:  How did you wind up at Oregon?

Calvin Throckmorton:  Washington and Oregon were my top two schools.  I chose Oregon because I felt comfortable with the coaches that were there at the time.  I wanted to be a part of a program educationally as well.  Oregon offered a lot.  They checked all of my boxes.  It was kind of getting away, but still being close to home.

Alex Khvatov:  I think that your head coach Mario Cristobal is building something special at Oregon.  Tell us about that coaching staff.

Calvin Throckmorton:  He is just a guy that will do everything possible to help his players.  Whether it is on the football field or try to help us be the best men that we could possibly be.  He will run through a brick wall for his players.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the highlight of your career up to this point?

Calvin Throckmorton:  This past season winning the Rose Bowl.  It was probably the best experience that I had.  It was great to go from a 4-8 season with our senior class a couple of years ago to winning the Rose Bowl.  It was special.

Alex Khvatov:  How would you describe your QB Justin Herbert?

Calvin Throckmorton:  He is just a relentless competitor who is going to everything possible to help the team win.  He was the leader of our offense and our team.  A guy who will truly do everything for his teammates.

Alex Khvatov:  What was your major?

Calvin Throckmorton:  I graduated already last spring.  I majored in human physiology.  It was a pre-med major.  After football, medical school is in the future.

Alex Khvatov:  What one word best describes you?

Calvin Throckmorton:  Versatile.
