CB Nevelle Clarke (Central Florida) Shrine Bowl Interview

Nevelle Clarke

Cornerback / Central Florida

Alex Khvatov:  How would you describe your overall experience at the 2020 East/West Shrine Bowl?

Nevelle Clarke:  The experience has been good.  The first day was all new to me.  Just the scenery, being with the kids.  Just building a relationship with some of these kids.  Players that have all come from different schools.  I was just trying to make plays.  I am learning from different coaches.  Learning new things is always a good thing, so I can apply it to my game and improve.

Alex Khvatov:  Who has been the toughest WR to go up against in practice this week?

Nevelle Clarke:  All of them are good.  As long as I stay with my technique and do what I have to do, it is not that difficult to cover anybody.  #82 (Joe Reed) and #81 (Keith Gavin) from Florida State are good.  The Florida receivers are pretty good.  It is good to see the different styles of these wide receivers.  They all bring something different, how they come off the line.

Alex Khvatov:  You won a lot of games at UCF.  What was it like to be a part of a winning program?

Nevelle Clarke:  It was everything.  I was there when we went 0-12 my first year.  Then we went 6-6 with Coach Frost.  Then we went 13-0 and 12-1.  Seeing how we turned around the program.  It is amazing what it is now.  If Coach Frost didn’t go there and Coach Heupel didn’t come.  It was the best thing.

Alex Khvatov:  How did you wind up at UCF?

Nevelle Clarke:  I didn’t sign on signing day.  They stuck with me.  I didn’t even know that they offered me.  I had to take my ACT.  They came in late and they were still on me.  I was either going to go to UCF or Florida.  I stopped at UCF first.  They offered me on the spot.  It felt like home.  It was close to home.  I felt the love from them.  The scenery, and we have a high graduation rate.  It was important for me to graduate from college.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your strengths?

Nevelle Clarke:  Physicality.  I am good at press.  You can put me in any scheme, I will be good.  As long as I learn it, I can do it.  I am a very quick learner.

Alex Khvatov:  Where are you currently training for the NFL Draft?

Nevelle Clarke:  I was just in Fort Lauderdale before I came out here.  After this, I will be in Calabasas, CA.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the highlight of your career up to this point?

Nevelle Clarke:  I had a big year in 2018.  I had good years the past two years.  Against SMU in 2017, watch that whole game.  You will see everything that you want to see.  That was my best overall game.  I got a lot more games.

Alex Khvatov:  What one word best describes you?

Nevelle Clarke:  Playmaker.
