Tony Jones
Running Back / Notre Dame
Alex Khvatov: How would you describe your overall experience at the 2020 East/West Shrine Bowl?
Tony Jones: It’s great because the game is in my hometown. It’s my last amateur game. All of the dudes out here are good. They are making me better.
Alex Khvatov: How does a guy from Florida wind up at Notre Dame?
Tony Jones: I wanted to challenge myself on and off the field. I realize that there is life beyond this sport. I got to look towards the future.
Alex Khvatov: Tell me about your career at Notre Dame.
Tony Jones: Our four years were up and down. We were 4-8 our first year. It was a punch in the face. We had to look in the mirror. We changed it around. We went 10-3. That was a good year. Next year, we went 12-0. We found our niche. Then we went 11-2. It could have been better, but I wouldn’t change it for anything.
Alex Khvatov: You have done well in pass protection drills during this week. Do you take a lot of pride in blocking?
Tony Jones: Pass protection can save you in the league. It can help you make a team. It can help you get on the field on third down. The dude you are blocking for is worth millions.
Alex Khvatov: What are your strengths?
Tony Jones: I am a do it all back. I can block, run well and run good routes. I am a selfless guy.
Alex Khvatov: What areas of your game are you trying to improve upon?
Tony Jones: Learning the concepts in the league. I am coming from a spread system. Learning how to be a pro more. Being more elusive in space.
Alex Khvatov: What is the highlight of your career up to this point?
Tony Jones: The TD versus USC that put us in the playoffs. It was my birthday on that day too.
Alex Khvatov: What one word best describes you?
Tony Jones: Selfless.
