Day Three Practice Notes
South Team
Today was indoors…somewhat. I was in their indoor practice facility that had the walls open. It was a nice facility though at South Alabama. Today there was a lot of practice on special teams, especially on kickoffs.
Quarterbacks
Justin Herbert (Oregon) looked great today. He threw the ball effortlessly in the end zone on a red zone drill. He also threw a ball right on the money into the corner of the end zone. I liked that he also had some zip on his passes. Towards the end of practice, he delivered a strike to Duvernay in the middle of the field.
Jalen Hurts (Oklahoma) missed on a pass to the inside corner of the end zone. He also missed badly on a short pass to Pinkney. He did improve at the end of practice throwing a strike to the front of the end zone.
Steven Montez (Colorado) missed badly on a pass into the endzone. He is still working on his footwork, but has improved.
Running Backs
Eno Benjamin (Arizona State) had a fumble today.
Wide Receivers
Austin Mack (Ohio State) looked good on an end route thrown into the end zone. He did a good job on another ball securing the catching and moving it over the goal line.
Collin Johnson (Texas) had a nice toe drag to stay in the end zone for a catch. He also did a nice job high pointing the ball.
Van Jefferson (Florida) looked good staying in bounds on a red zone drill.
Tight Ends
Josiah Deguara (Cincinnati) had strong hands on a tight end blocking drill. He is a guy who can play a role where he is asked to block on running plays.
Jared Pinkney (Vanderbilt) had a bad drop on a tight end catching drill. He did redeem himself staying in bounds on a throw into the end zone.
Harrison Bryant (Florida Atlantic) dropped a ball he shouldn’t have. Bryant did show good route running ability today. He had a nice toe drag in the end zone.
Cornerbacks
Kindle Vildor (Georgia Southern) got a pass interference penalty from the refs. He recovered by forcing Van Jefferson out of bounds on a red zone drill. The second time it was legal.
Riser: Joseph Deguara from Cincinnati. I think he has a role in the NFL as a blocking tight end.
