Akeem Davis-Gaither
Linebacker / Appalachian State
Alex Khvatov: Tell us about this Senior Bowl experience. Did you ever think that you would be here before the season started?
Akeem Davis-Gaither: I never put a limit on what I can achieve. I never saw it down the road that I would be coming to this event. I am from a small school. A lot of people look down at that conference. It is definitely an honor to be here. I am grateful to my school and to my family.
Alex Khvatov: What do you want to show NFL teams this week?
Akeem Davis-Gaither: I want to show them what I was doing in my conference, I can do it here. I can play outside the box.
Alex Khvatov: You are the new breed LB. You are what the NFL looks for in linebackers right now. Talk about it.
Akeem Davis-Gaither: I can fly around. Keep up with more athletic TE’s and RB’s. They are getting faster, and linebackers are getting faster. I can play in space. I can cover on third down.
Alex Khvatov: What areas of your game are you trying to improve upon?
Akeem Davis-Gaither: I played so much inside the box. It is a little bit different playing OLB at the next level. I can work on some fundamentals to improve my game.
Alex Khvatov: How did you wind up at Appalachian State?
Akeem Davis-Gaither: They were my only North Carolina Division I offer. I had Boston College, which was my first offer. Georgia Southern was another offer. App State is closer to home and to my mom. I loved it.
Alex Khvatov: What is the highlight of your career up to this point?
Akeem Davis-Gaither: The team wins that we had this season. We went 13-1. We were ranked at the end of the season. The school has never done that before.
Alex Khvatov: What one word best describes you?
Akeem Davis-Gaither: Accountable.
