Alex Khvatov: How would you describe your overall experience at the East/West Shrine Bowl last week?
Charlie Heck: The Shrine Bowl was great. It was beautiful down there in Tampa. There were great people and great guys. A lot of it is similar to what we are doing out here at the Senior Bowl. We had NFL coaches out there. It was a great experience.
Alex Khvatov: How honored were you to get invited to the Senior Bowl?
Charlie Heck: It meant a lot when I got the phone call to come out here to the Senior Bowl. It was a goal of mine. It is another opportunity to show yourself and compete.
Alex Khvatov: What has your head coach Mack Brown brought to UNC?
Charlie Heck: He brought a lot of excitement to the program. The whole time to Chapel Hill. People were talking about Carolina football. He created the buzz on the team. People were showing up to practice ready and excited. It showed throughout the year.
Alex Khvatov: What are your strengths?
Charlie Heck: I am a technician. I am long and athletic.
Alex Khvatov: What areas of your game are you trying to improve upon?
Charlie Heck: I am trying to get stronger. Being more aggressive in pass protection.
Alex Khvatov: Your dad played in the NFL. What has he taught you about the game and told you about moving on to the pro level?
Charlie Heck: My dad did a great job of being a father first and then OL coach. He was always there to offer advice and help. He taught us to play football in the absence of fear.
Alex Khvatov: How did you wind up at North Carolina?
Charlie Heck: My brother played ball in Carolina. He was there when I got offered by them. I just jumped on that opportunity right away. I committed right away. It is a great athletic program here. Academically, it is a great school. I just fell in love with Chapel Hill.
Alex Khvatov: What is your biggest accomplishment in college?
Charlie Heck: Being voted team captain this past season. It meant a lot to me. It is voted on by the players. That is why you play football.
Alex Khvatov: What one word best describes you?
Charlie Heck: Loyal.
