OT Connor McKivitz (West Virginia) Senior Bowl Interview

Colton McKivitz

Offensive Tackle / West Virginia

Ed Hunt:  How are you feeling today going into your first Senior Bowl practice?

Colton McKivitz:  Excited!  Now meeting with teams are kind of out of the way and now it’s time to get back to work.

Ed Hunt:  Who was the best defensive lineman you faced in the Big 12?

Colton McKivitz:  James Lynch from this year.  He was a good player in his own.  He was pretty big, physical, but had a finesse side to him that I think surprised a lot of people and it helped him make an All-American.

Ed Hunt:  What do you think is your best fit on the offensive line?

Colton McKivitz:  In my opinion, it’s tackle.  I like the outside, but I also play a little bit of guard, so the versatility is there.

Ed Hunt:  What have the scouts been telling you?

Colton McKivitz:  I have been consistent and a hard-worker.  Really knows the playbook.  I like learning.  I am kind of a prick on the field. That’s kind of my MO.  MO is being nasty.  The bad is just I need to work on my hands is one thing.  They want to see a more sort of hand placement and punch with it.  So just laying on guys and protecting my chest.  That’s something they’d like to see me work on.

Ed Hunt:  Can you tell me about your former QB Will Grier?

Colton McKivitz: Yeah Willy G.!  Yeah, he’s a good dude.  Phenomenal player.  Made our offensive line job easy.  1-2, the balls out.  Great teammate.  Even with the family, he always made time to be in the building and spend time with us.  Just an overall great guy and a great player.

Ed Hunt:  What was your favorite team growing up?

Colton McKivitz:  It was actually the Pittsburgh Steelers.  I was from Ohio, but you know Pittsburgh was closer.

Ed Hunt:  What would you say is your biggest weakness?

Colton McKivitz:  Biggest weakness would probably be self-doubt sometimes.  One thing I notice is that I try and chase perfection too hard.  With grading myself, I’m pretty hard on myself.  Just having that self-confidence.

Ed Hunt:  Where are you training for the NFL Draft?

Colton McKivitz:  O-line performance in Phoenix, Arizona with LeCharles Bentley.
