Tyre Phillips
Offensive Lineman / Mississippi State
Ed Hunt: How did you feel about the weigh-in today?
Tyre Phillips: I wanted to be in the 330 range, but I felt good because when I started training a couple weeks ago, I was 355. I lost a good amount of weight in two weeks. I was pleased, but I have my own personal goals. But I’m good at 342. I still got training before the combine to get my weight down some more.
Ed Hunt: How many bench press reps can you do now?
Tyre Phillips: I’m still working on it. It’s not a number. I’m just working out.
Ed Hunt: Can you tell me about your strengths as a lineman?
Tyre Phillips: My athleticism and my first punch. My feet and I use my hands really well.
Ed Hunt: One thing you want to show scouts here in Mobile that you can do?
Tyre Phillips: Finish. That’s my word of the week, finish.
Ed Hunt: Is there a lineman that you model your game after?
Tyre Phillips: I like Trent Brown’s style because of his size. A 350-360 guy, he’s long. He’s really strong with his hands, I look up to him. Trent Brown, I watch his film a lot.
Ed Hunt: Who is the hardest guy you’ve faced in the SEC?
Tyre Phillips: Evans from LSU. He was really good. Number 17 or 18. One of those numbers. He had a good speed rush.
Ed Hunt: What do you think of the new coaching hire at Mississippi State?
Tyre Phillips: To be honest, I have no clue about it because he got rid of everybody. I don’t know nobody there besides players. I’ll ask them more about it when I get back to Mississippi State’s pro day.
Ed Hunt: What are NFL scouts telling you as far as round projection and so forth?
Tyre Phillips: They haven’t told me anything about round projection. They’re just saying, finish this week and show them my SEC game last year and just stand up and raise your stock.
Ed Hunt: It’s a loaded schedule here at the Senior Bowl. Is this something you have prepared for in the SEC?
Tyre Phillips: Time management has always been big. I’m a student athlete period, so I have to have time management skills. The schedule here, it’s just really easy to go by the schedule and just when it’s time to go, it’s time to go.
Ed Hunt: Where are you training?
Tyre Phillips: Baton Rouge. Power source and Walt Williams.
