OG Damien Lewis (LSU) Senior Bowl Interview

Damien Lewis

Offensive Guard / LSU

Ed Hunt:  Can you tell me about your emotions after winning a National Championship?

Damien Lewis:  This season went really great.  We came off a perfect season.  It was great holding up that Trophy.  Going 15-0 was great.  Really the win from Clemson, it hasn’t really hit me yet.  The SEC Championship or the National Championship, it hasn’t really hit me yet.  It hasn’t sunk in.  I’m still taking everything in.

Ed Hunt:  Do you know Joe Burrow pretty well?

Damien Lewis:  Yes, I see him every day.

Ed Hunt:  What kind of guy is he?

Damien Lewis:  A team guy.  He’s a good person.  Coaches are going to love him, a leader.  He’s a captain.  He’s going to go all out.

Ed Hunt:  Can you give me a picture of Justin Jefferson too?

Damien Lewis:  He’s a real electric guy.  Real freaky.  Loves to dance.  He’s going to come to work, give it his all, compete at a high level, all out.

Ed Hunt:  What are your strengths?

Damien Lewis:  I feel like I’m good in the run and the pass game.  I ball guys in both lines especially in the run game.

Ed Hunt:  Is there a best fit for you?  Best position for you in the NFL?

Damien Lewis:  It doesn’t matter.  I can play interior offensive line.  I can play center, left guard and right guard.  It doesn’t matter.  I’m going to come in and compete.  Try to get that job.

Ed Hunt:  What are you trying to show the scouts at this Senior Bowl?

Damien Lewis:  This week, I better showcase my talent.  I’m going to come in and compete.  Go against some of the best.  I’m just going to go all out with it and just perform at a high level.  I want to show them that height don’t matter.  You can’t measure the heart.

Ed Hunt:  Can you tell us about Ed Orgeron.  What it’s like to play for a guy like him?

Damien Lewis:  Coach is a great coach.  A guy you want to be around.  A guy you want to build your team around.  He is really about being there.  He takes everything seriously.  He doesn’t have time to play around.  Cut it out because we here to win a championship game and ball.

Ed Hunt:  At what point did the team think you can be #1, we can run the table and we’re going to run the SEC?

Damien Lewis:  At the UCF game in 2018.  After that game right there, we came together as a team.  We were sure what we were trying to reach.  We were trying to get the SEC championship and the National Championship.  Whatever it took to get there.  Responsibility, character and be accountable to each other.  A lot of ability plays a part to build a team to get where we are trying to go.  A lot of hard work.

Ed Hunt:  Is there a guy you watch film on to pick up tips?

Damien Lewis:  There’s a couple of guys.  I watch a guy from the Oakland Raiders and Quenton Nelson.  The guys who are really tough.
