DL Jason Strowbridge (North Carolina) Senior Bowl Interview

Jason Strowbridge

Defensive Lineman / North Carolina

Ed Hunt:  Tell us about your experience at the Senior Bowl.

Jason Strowbridge:  This is something that I grew up watching.  Seeing the best of the best compete.  It still hasn’t him yet.  I am trying to take notes on what the scouts and coaches are telling me.  It’s been a fun week so far.

Ed Hunt:  How do you feel going into your first practice?

Jason Strowbridge:  You know first things first, butterflies.  I don’t really know what to expect.  With all the coaches, things are moving fast right now.  The things they are looking for most is just effort and the ability to take things from drill to drill.  So just showing my ability to adapt on the run and just effort.

Ed Hunt:  How do you feel about your weigh in?

Jason Strowbridge:  I feel pretty good.  I thought I would be a little bit heavier, but at the same time it’s not that big of a deal.  I’ve played underweight a lot of my career.  I’m not worried about it.

Ed Hunt:  What are the scouts telling you?

Jason Strowbridge:  Try to figure out where I fit best.  I played at 3-tech, five and inside a bit.  I dropped back a few times this year.  Just trying to figure out where I fit.

Ed Hunt:  What position do you feel most comfortable at?

Jason Strowbridge:  I would say three-tech.  I originally started at DE.

Ed Hunt:  Tell us about your career at UNC.

Jason Strowbridge:  I came in as a freshman.  I redshirted.  I broke both of my feet at the same time.  I am good after all of that.  I had a solid career.

Ed Hunt:  Who was the hardest matchup that you had in the ACC?

Jason Strowbridge:  Hardest matchup?  There were a lot of good ones.  Tremayne (Anchrum) from Clemson, he was pretty good.  Also, I forget his name, but 71 from Pitt (Bryce Hargrove).  He was really good and a really strong dude.

Ed Hunt:  What was the highlight of your career at UNC?

Jason Strowbridge:  Beating Duke this past year.  They have beaten us three years in a row before that.  Just to come back and prove people wrong.  We turned the program in the right direction this year.

Ed Hunt:  What are your strengths?

Jason Strowbride:  My get off and my motor.  My hand placement and just kind of my flexibility.  I can play whatever position.

Ed Hunt:  What do you want to show the coaches here in Mobile?

Jason Strowbridge:  Just that I can pass rush too.  I’m really good at stopping the run, but I haven’t showed as much as a pass rusher as I want.  That’s really the focus for me this week.  Just going into practice, staying active, hands, showing my speed and quickness and my pass rush ability.

Ed Hunt:  Where are you training for the NFL Draft?

Jason Strowbridge:  Excel in Frisco.

Ed Hunt:  Are you working with a pass rush coach?

Jason Strowbridge:  I am.  I’m working with a D-line coach.  I have been working for ten plus years.

Ed Hunt:  Do you have some new moves to show us at the Senior Bowl?

Jason Strowbridge:  I wouldn’t say new, but polished up on them a little bit.  I definitely want to show them steady improvement.

Ed Hunt:  What can you say about your new head coach Mack Brown?

Jason Strowbridge:  Great guy!  Key on relationships.  He’ll ask how you’re doing and he won’t forget what you said.  He’ll carry on that conversation throughout the year, wherever it may be.  He genuinely cares about all his players.  He’s a good players coach.

Ed Hunt:  What is the biggest thing he has taught you?

Jason Strowbridge:  I think just building relationships.  That goes a long way.  With teammates, with media, with anyone you see on the street.  Just try to put your best foot forward and worry about others.

Ed Hunt:  What one word best describes you?

Jason Strowbridge:  Tough.
