WR Amechie Walker (Iowa State) Interview - NFL Draft Blitz

WR Amechie Walker (Iowa State) Interview

Amechie Walker
Wide Receiver / Iowa State

Alex Khvatov:  What are your measurements (height, weight and forty time)?

Amechie Walker:  5’10, 185, 4.3 40.

Alex Khvatov:  Where were you training for the NFL Draft?

Amechie Walker:  While training for Pro day, I trained at House of Athlete in Florida owned by Brandon Marshall with head trainer Troy Jones.

Alex Khvatov:  Describe your overall experience at the Tropical Bowl in Daytona Beach, FL.

Amechie Walker:  Overall, the Tropical Bowl was a great experience and I am thankful for the opportunity to be able to perform in front of several scouts.

Alex Khvatov:  You played DB the last couple of years at Iowa State, why did you decide to play WR at the Tropical Bowl?  What was the transition like?

Amechie Walker:  One of my best attributes is being versatile.  When I got the chance to play in the Tropical Bowl at wide receiver, it wasn’t a big transition because that’s what I played all my life.  I feel like I’m more dangerous when I can have the ball in my hands.

Alex Khvatov:  Coming out of high school, what programs showed interest in you?

Amechie Walker:  Coming out of high school, I was recruited by several power 5 schools.  I was committed to Temple up until two weeks before signing day.

Alex Khvatov:  Why did you choose New Hampshire?

Amechie Walker:  One of my biggest obstacles going into college was getting a high enough score on the SAT, so a lot of schools removed their scholarships or never offered me.  New Hampshire waited with me throughout that process, and I chose to go there.

Alex Khvatov:  Why did you transfer to Iowa State?

Amechie Walker:  I transferred to Iowa State with the mindset to challenge myself.  I knew that the challenge would bring out the best in me and I would be able to maximize myself to my full potential.  I also was recruited by Coach Campbell and his staff at Toledo in high school.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your strengths?

Amechie Walker:  My strength is versatility.  I can play both sides of the ball and special teams with a high football IQ.

Alex Khvatov:  What areas of your game are you trying to improve upon?

Amechie Walker:  I’m trying to improve on my physicality because I am naturally not the biggest person.

Alex Khvatov:  How would you describe your overall career?

Amechie Walker:  My freshman year, I played well at New Hampshire where I played wide receiver.  When I transferred to Iowa State, I had to sit out a year.  Overall, in my three seasons at Iowa State, I played multiple positions and a lot of special teams which was great.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the highlight of your career up to this point?

Amechie Walker:  My highlights were playing in three bowl games at Iowa State.  I’ll never forget those experiences!

Alex Khvatov:  What is your biggest accomplishment in college that you are most proud of?

Amechie Walker:  My biggest accomplishment in college came off the field when I graduated. That was big for me, being the first male in my family to do it.  The only other person to do it was my older sister.

Alex Khvatov:  What was the biggest thing that you took away from your coaching staff?

Amechie Walker:  The biggest thing I took away from my coaching staff was being selfless, “we before me”.  It’s not always about you, the team is what’s important.

Alex Khvatov:  What is your favorite NFL team?

Amechie Walker:  I’m a fan of all 32 teams.

Alex Khvatov:  Who is your favorite NFL player?

Amechie Walker:  Chase Edmonds and David Montgomery.

Alex Khvatov:  Before the ball is snapped, what are the tendencies that you are looking for from the defense?

Amechie Walker:  I normally look at alignments.  They can normally tell a lot and all the things I studied the week approaching the game.

Alex Khvatov:  What players on your team should we keep an eye on for next season?

Amechie Walker:  Lawrence White, Tarique Milton and Isheem Young.

Alex Khvatov:  Who is the best player that you have faced on an opposing team?

Amechie Walker:  Denzel Mims.

Alex Khvatov:  What do you enjoy most about football?

Amechie Walker:  I enjoy competing and off the field, the life lessons it teaches.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your hobbies?

Amechie Walker:  My hobbies are fishing, shopping, and playing madden.

Alex Khvatov:  What do you want to do with your life after your football career is over?

Amechie Walker:  I want to be a college football coach when I’m done with playing football.

Alex Khvatov:  What five words best describe you?

Amechie Walker:  Humble, confident, determined, analytical and diligent.
