Ed Hunt: What are your measurements? (Height, Weight and 40 time)
Preston Guerra: I’m 6’2, weight is 242 pounds and I haven’t been timed in a while for the 40.
Ed Hunt: What has happened to your training due to COVID-19?
Preston Guerra: In terms of training, I was training at Colorado Movement Company and then at home, I was training in the garage. My dad had a little set up for me.
Ed Hunt: What are the expectations for your team in 2020?
Preston Guerra: We have put in a lot of good work. We have a strong senior class with a lot of leadership. The sky is the limit.
Ed Hunt: What is the biggest strength of the CSU-Pueblo team in 2020?
Preston Guerra: I would say our work ethic. We have a lot of grinders and lots of senior leadership.
Ed Hunt: What schools were interested in you out of high school?
Preston Guerra: I received interest from the Ivy league schools, NAU, Montana and CSU-Pueblo.
Ed Hunt: What made you choose CSU-Pueblo?
Preston Guerra: My high school coach had a relationship with coach Wristen and everything he embodies as a head coach and that’s what drew me to CSU-Pueblo.
Ed Hunt: What is your biggest sport outside of football?
Preston Guerra: Growing up, I played basketball and baseball. When I got to high school, I focused on football because that was my main love.
Ed Hunt: What is your biggest accomplishment in that sport?
Preston Guerra: I guess it’s been awhile since I played those sports, but making all-star teams in those sports.
Ed Hunt: What are your strengths (on the football field)?
Preston Guerra: My leadership and work ethic. I am a guy who plays to the whistle every play. My blocking is a strong suit of mine.
Ed Hunt: What are you working on as far as weaknesses?
Preston Guerra: Footwork, hand placement, hand pressure, and route running.
Ed Hunt: What was the highlight of your career?
Preston Guerra: I would say, two years ago, we went to down and we played Texas A&M- Commerce. They were #1 in the country at the time, and we beat them. It was a great game and it is something I will always remember.
Ed Hunt: What is your biggest accomplishment in college?
Preston Guerra: I would say the success we’ve had collectively. We have collectively been able to win three conference championships for myself and the team.
Ed Hunt: What have you learned the most from your coaching staff?
Preston Guerra: We have few core values: trust, faith and patience.
Ed Hunt: What is your favorite NFL team?
Preston Guerra: My favorite NFL team is the Arizona Cardinals. I grew up in that area.
Ed Hunt: Who is an NFL player you model your game after or watch tape on?
Preston Guerra: I would say, I like George Kittle. He is someone I like to watch film on. He has an all-around game. He puts his hand in the dirt and blocks. I loved his tape at Iowa.
Ed Hunt: What is the most important trait for a tight end?
Preston Guerra: Versatility. More than one thing. Being part of the line and being a part of the run game and being a receiver.
Ed Hunt: Before the ball is snapped, what tendencies are you looking for in the defense?
Preston Guerra: You have to understand what coverages they are in. Looking at the front end. Understanding what my assignment is. Starting at the back end and then moving to the box and their different techniques.
Ed Hunt: What players from your team should we keep an eye on for next year whether it be seniors or underclassmen?
Preston Guerra: Some seniors that have really been working are Trevor Philio (LB), Luke Conilogue (LB), Marcus Lawrence (DB), and Anthony Barron (DB).
Ed Hunt: Who is the best player you have faced on an opposing team?
Preston Guerra: I would have to say Alex Lilliard. He is a good outside linebacker who played at Dixie State.
Ed Hunt: What do you enjoy most about football?
Preston Guerra: For me, I really enjoy the camaraderie and everyone working on a common goal. Working together is something I will always cherish.
Ed Hunt: What makes you unique?
Preston Guerra: I would say my leadership ability and my work ethic. Someone with grit. I play to the whistle and then some. I am someone that is going to give the maximum on every play. I don’t see myself as just a tight end. I see myself as a football player and that’s what makes me unique.
Ed Hunt: What are your hobbies?
Preston Guerra: Some of my hobbies are working out, going hunting and with my friends, I enjoy watching movies.
Ed Hunt: What do you want to do with your life after your football career?
Preston Guerra: Right now, I am getting my master’s degree in sports industry management. I would like to be an athletics director or work in an NFL front office.

Preston Guerra: Leader, grit, tough, smart and humble.
