WR Keith Coffee (East Tennessee State) Interview

Keith Coffee

Wide Receiver / East Tennessee State

Alex Khvatov:  What are your measurements (height, weight and forty time)?

Keith Coffee:  I am 6’4, 195 and I run a 4.4.

Alex Khvatov:  How did you prepare for the 2020 season with no offseason training?

Keith Coffee:  I was in Florida.  I was doing home workouts.  I ran routes at whatever field I can find.  I used cones for agility drills and caught the ball from the Jugs machine.

Alex Khvatov:  What can we expect from your team this upcoming season?

Keith Coffee:  We just have a great bond throughout the team.  Everyone is anxious for the season.  We want to win the conference championship.

Alex Khvatov:  Besides football, what other sports did you play in high school?

Keith Coffee:  I played basketball.  I also ran track.  I did the 400m, 100m and the high jump.

Alex Khvatov:  What positions did you play in high school?

Keith Coffee:  I played CB, safety and receiver.

Alex Khvatov:  Coming out of high school, what programs showed interest in you?

Keith Coffee:  I lived in Georgia with my father during my senior year.  After the season, I moved back to Florida with my mom.  I had ETSU, Western Carolina, Albany and Wagner.

Alex Khvatov:  How did you wind up at ETSU?

Keith Coffee:  It was my first offer.  It was the best decision for me.  It is the only official visit that I was able to go to.  The school wasn’t too big or too small.  I saw myself having a future there.  I can make myself better and the team better.

Alex Khvatov:  How would you describe your overall career?

Keith Coffee:  During my true freshman year, I played sparingly.  I started a couple of games.  I competed with the older guys at receiver.  Freshman year, I played with an injury.  I had a femur fracture.  The pain came in around the following spring going into my sophomore year.  I redshirted the following year because of the injury.  As a redshirt sophomore, I was really happy to play the game again.  I was very appreciative of my time.  I became the starter.  We won the SoCon championship.  Junior year, it was a fun year.  We had a new team.  We had new QB’s.  Before the season, I got injured.  I played the whole season with a back fracture.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your strengths?

Keith Coffee:  I can stop on a dime.  I have good speed.  I get the ball at the highest point and get yards after the catch.  I have good footwork.

Alex Khvatov:  What areas of your game are you trying to improve upon?

Keith Coffee:  I need to get better overall.  I need to watch more film.  I want to get bigger, faster and stronger.  I need to get my footwork cleaner and be more fluid with my routes.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the highlight of your career up to this point?

Keith Coffee:  Being the SoCon champs.  Even though we tied for the conference lead, we were still champs.  But I want more.  This last season, I made it through the whole year with a back fracture.  I am proud that I was able to play through the injury.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the biggest lesson that you have taken away from your coaching staff?

Keith Coffee:  Try to be as consistent as possible.  Don’t focus on one play and move on to the next play.  I am hard on myself.

Alex Khvatov:  What is your favorite NFL team?

Keith Coffee:  My home team, the Miami Dolphins.

Alex Khvatov:  Who is your favorite NFL player?

Keith Coffee:  Randy Moss.  I like to watch his highlights.  Julio Jones, Davante Adams and Mohamed Sanu.

Alex Khvatov:  What players on your team should we keep an eye on for this upcoming season?

Keith Coffee:  WR Will Huzzie, OL Tre’mond Shorts, DE Olajuwon Pinkleton, QB Cade Weldon, DE/LB Blake Bockrath, QB Tyler Riddell, LB Ja’Varius Harrison, S Tyree Robinson, WR Isaiah Wilson, WR Desi Lester, and CB Karon Delince.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the most important trait for a WR?

Keith Coffee:  Hand-eye coordination.  You have to have speed, footwork, and agility.

Alex Khvatov:  What do you enjoy most about football?

Keith Coffee:  It is fun to score and to hit.  It is fun to jump over people.  It is fun to make plays.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your hobbies?

Keith Coffee:  I like to draw and paint.

Alex Khvatov:  What do you want to do with your life after your football career is over?

Keith Coffee:  I want to sell my artwork.  I also want to join company’s advertisement team and be a creative director.  On the side, I want to be an athletic trainer.

Alex Khvatov:  What five words best describe you?

Keith Coffee:  Weird, unique, goofy, smooth, and genuine.
