OL Brian Foley (Holy Cross) Interview

Brian Foley

Offensive Lineman / Holy Cross

Alex Khvatov:  What are your measurements (height, weight and forty time)?

Brian Foley:  I am 6’4, roughly 300 and 5.28.

Alex Khvatov:  How did you prepare for the 2020 season with no offseason training?

Brian Foley:  My high school teammates were home.  I trained with a center from Illinois and a center from Michigan.  We all go to a trainer from our high school days.  We lifted four times a week and went to a local field a couple of times a week.  I am going to the gym now once it opened.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your thoughts on the fall season being canceled in the Patriot League?

Brian Foley:  I was really disappointed.  Once the Ivy League canceled their season, we knew what was coming.  They weren’t optimistic about having a season in the fall.  They were open with us that we could get canceled.  They prepared us for it.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your future plans?

Brian Foley:  I would like to pursue playing football at the next level.  I want to have another year of college football.

Alex Khvatov:  Besides football, what other sports did you play in high school?

Brian Foley:  I grew up in the Chicago suburbs.  I was a heavyweight wrestler.  I wrestled for three years.  I didn’t wrestle my senior year.

Alex Khvatov:  What positions did you play in high school?

Brian Foley:  I played everything on the O-line.  I played C, OG and RT during my senior year.  I also played defense during my senior year.  I played NT in goal-line and on fourth downs.

Alex Khvatov:  Coming out of high school, what programs showed interest in you?

Brian Foley:  Bucknell was my first offer, SE Missouri State and Indiana State.

Alex Khvatov:  How did you wind up at Holy Cross?

Brian Foley:  They offered me in December of my senior year.  I received a full scholarship.  I liked the campus and the kids.  I fell in love with the coaches.

Alex Khvatov:  How would you describe your overall career?

Brian Foley:  I played RT my freshman year.  I played 50% of the snaps.  I was 4-7 that year.  Our coach got fired.  The new coach switched me to LT the following year.  We went 5-6, and were second in the conference.  I earned first team all-conference and Hero Sports All-American.  Junior year, we won the conference.  I continued to play LT.  We finished with a 7-6 record.  We lost in the first round of the FCS playoffs to Monmouth.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your strengths?

Brian Foley:  I am a physical player.  I finish a lot of blocks, and I pride myself on it.  When I get my hands on the opponent, I sustain blocks well.

Alex Khvatov:  What areas of your game are you trying to improve upon?

Brian Foley:  Definitely in pass blocking, I need to get out of my pass set a little bit faster.  I need to be quicker on my first kick.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the highlight of your career up to this point?

Brian Foley:  A highlight last year was beating Georgetown.  It was our senior day.  We had a cool ceremony.  We were able to raise the conference trophy at home.  It was our last regular season game.  I will never forget the day.  We won 20-0.  We dominated the whole time.  It was our first conference championship.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the biggest lesson that you have taken away from your coaching staff?

Brian Foley:  Accountability.  Do your one job on every play.  We have been sending videos to our coaches while we have been home.  We have been doing a good job with it.

Alex Khvatov:  What is your favorite NFL team?

Brian Foley:  Bears fan.  We certainly had a disappointing season this past year.

Alex Khvatov:  Who is your favorite NFL player?

Brian Foley:  Quenton Nelson from the Colts.  I have family that went to Notre Dame.  I was a fan of Notre Dame before I got to Holy Cross.

Alex Khvatov:  What players on your team should we keep an eye on for this upcoming season?

Brian Foley:  WR Tenio Ayeni, S Joe Lang, LB Jacob Dobbs, and WR Ayir Asante.

Alex Khvatov:  Who is the best player that you have faced on an opposing team?

Brian Foley:  Boston College DL Zach Allen.  He was different than who I usually go up against.  He was big, strong and physical.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the most important trait for an OL?

Brian Foley:  Being nasty.  You need to finish blocks and do your assignment.  You need to be tougher than the guy across from you.

Alex Khvatov:  What do you enjoy most about football?

Brian Foley:  The fact you are there with 10 other people on offense.  The brotherhood aspect.  One man succeeds, and we all succeed.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your hobbies?

Brian Foley:  I like to golf.  I have been a caddy for eight years.  I like hanging out with friends and family and playing video games.

Alex Khvatov:  What do you want to do with your life after your football career is over?

Brian Foley:  I want to go into consulting or commercial real estate.

Alex Khvatov:  What makes you unique?

Brian Foley:  I do a lot of preparation for games.  I spend a lot of time watching film by myself.

Alex Khvatov:  What five words best describe you?

Brian Foley:  Accountable, tough, hardworking, disciplined, and outgoing.
