Alex Khvatov: What are your measurements (height, weight and forty time)?
Kholbe Coleman-Abrams: I am 6’0, 230 and low 4.5.
Alex Khvatov: How did you prepare for the 2020 season with no offseason training?
Kholbe Coleman-Abrams: I went down to Alabama. My dad is a head coach in Birmingham, Alabama. He also coaches the DL. I used his weight room and worked out with the high school team. His name is Adrian Abrams. He played LB at UAB in the late 1990’s. He gives me a lot of tips. I also worked out at the sandpit and went to the gym. I worked out with my trainer Otis Leverette. He trains Jameis Winston. He is a big time guy.
Alex Khvatov: Besides football, what other sports did you play in high school?
Kholbe Coleman-Abrams: In high school, I used to run hurdles in track. I also used to play basketball. I mainly focused on football in high school. I went to Hoover high school.
Alex Khvatov: What positions did you play in high school?
Kholbe Coleman-Abrams: I played MLB and OLB.
Alex Khvatov: Coming out of high school, what programs showed interest in you?
Kholbe Coleman-Abrams: My first D-I offer was Bowling Green. Southern Miss, Middle Tennessee, Wake Forest and Tulane were looking at me. I wanted to go to Middle Tennessee, but their defensive coordinator got fired.
Alex Khvatov: How did you wind up at Bowling Green?
Kholbe Coleman-Abrams: My cousin was a DL coach at Bowling Green. They had great coaches. It was a great college town.
Alex Khvatov: How would you describe your overall career?
Kholbe Coleman-Abrams: Freshman year, I got to play in big time games. I was getting my feet wet. I was playing in different packages and special teams. Sophomore year, I earned a starting MLB spot under a new DC. I solidified my role. Coach Pelini came in with a new defensive scheme. I had a good season. I was the second leading tackler on the team. Junior year, I had 103 tackles. I earned All-Mac honors. I got recognition this past year. Every year, I have gotten better. I should put an icing on the cake this year.
Alex Khvatov: What can we expect from your team this upcoming season?
Kholbe Coleman-Abrams: Our new head coach Scot Loeffler is changing the culture. We should definitely get to a bowl game. I believe we will win more games than last year. We have key players coming back. We are in our second year in this defensive scheme.
Alex Khvatov: What are your strengths?
Kholbe Coleman-Abrams: I bring grit. I never quit on the play or during the game. I am a sure-tackler. I am a smart player. I grasp things quickly. I have played in a few defensive schemes for a couple of different defensive coordinators. I am also a ferocious hitter.
Alex Khvatov: What areas of your game are you trying to improve upon?
Kholbe Coleman-Abrams: I need to get better at play recognition. I need to get in and out of my breaks quicker and work on my closing speed.
Alex Khvatov: What is the highlight of your career up to this point?
Kholbe Coleman-Abrams: My highlight is last year’s game against Toledo. It was the first time we beat them in 10 years. It was my best game. I had 15 tackles and a couple of tackles for loss. It is a rivalry game. I usually come up with my best performances during the rivalry games.
Alex Khvatov: What is the biggest lesson that you have taken away from your coaching staff?
Kholbe Coleman-Abrams: Just to adapt and grow. Work hard, and success will come. Don’t pout when things don’t go your way, make something of yourself. Good things will happen.
Alex Khvatov: What is your favorite NFL team?
Kholbe Coleman-Abrams: I was born in CA, but raised in Alabama. I have lived with my father since the seventh grade. I have always been a fan of the New Orleans Saints. I have a lot of family in Louisiana. My grandfather is originally from Louisiana. I have a lot of family from Mobile, Alabama. I grew up going up to the Senior Bowl when I was young with my grandfather. He set up a tailgate there.
Alex Khvatov: Who is your favorite NFL player?
Kholbe Coleman-Abrams: Kwon Alexander is my favorite guy. He was an LSU Tiger, but he is originally from Alabama.
Alex Khvatov: What players on your team should we keep an eye on for this upcoming season?
Kholbe Coleman-Abrams: TE Quintin Morris, RB Andrew Clair, LB Jerry Roberts and S Jordan Anderson.
Alex Khvatov: Who is the best player that you have faced on an opposing team?
Kholbe Coleman-Abrams: The best player I faced on an opposing team was CB Jamyest Williams. He was at South Carolina. He played at Grayson high school. He was a star CB. He was also a kick and punt returner.
Alex Khvatov: What is the most important trait for a LB?
Kholbe Coleman-Abrams: Speed and explosiveness. You can make a lot of plays by running at full speed and giving extreme effort. You need the will to tackle and play recognition. You have to know what’s coming.
Alex Khvatov: What is your definition of a leader?
Kholbe Coleman-Abrams: I should be a captain this year. You have to lead on and off the field. You have to be outspoken and mentally strong. You have to carry the team through the ups and downs.
Alex Khvatov: What makes you unique?
Kholbe Coleman-Abrams: I am a great communicator on the field. I motivate my teammates. I love to hit. I have been playing the game since three years old. My mother signed me up for football. I also lived Japan for two and a half years before middle school. My mom was in the military.
Alex Khvatov: What was it like living abroad?
Kholbe Coleman-Abrams: Japan was very different. Different people, and the steering wheel is on the other side. It is a great culture. I played flag football there. I was the QB.
Alex Khvatov: What do you enjoy most about football?
Kholbe Coleman-Abrams: I love the locker room experience with all of my teammates and coaches whether it is after the game or practice. I love the memories. That environment can’t be beat. It is a lot of blood, sweat and tears.
Alex Khvatov: What are your hobbies?
Kholbe Coleman-Abrams: I like to go on walks. If there is a trail nearby, I like to view a lot of stuff. I like to try different food. I like to eat and travel.
Alex Khvatov: What do you want to do with your life after your football career is over?
Kholbe Coleman-Abrams: I want to pursue social work. I want to help underprivileged kids. I should graduate in May with a degree in human development.
Alex Khvatov: What five words best describe you?
Kholbe Coleman-Abrams: Vicious, strong, determined, committed, and thankful.
