WR Caleb Eagans (Mary Hardin-Baylor) Draft Journal #2

Caleb Eagans Journal Entry #2

As I’m documenting my journey to the NFL Draft, I’d just like to say thank you, and emphasize how much of a privilege it is to be chosen by NFLDraftBlitz. Despite the adversity I’ve gone through to get to this point in my life, I’m blessed to be in this position. I hope to be able to encourage someone who is going through a tough time or has a dream they would like to achieve, to keep going and weather the storm. If you have a purpose that’s bigger than yourself, God will help you.

Through my journey to where I am now, I was thankful coming out of high school to be the 2014 Male Track Athlete of the Year in the state of Texas. I was recruited to Texas A&M and played football, ran track and powerlifted. In 2014, I won a Championship in the Liberty Bowl with the football program. In 2015 and 2016, I was an SEC dual-sport All-Academic athlete. From 2015-2018, I was part of Texas A&M’s National Society of Leadership and Success. From 2015-2017, I was on the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll. In 2017, I became a Collegiate National Powerlifter representing Texas A&M. In 2018, I graduated with honors and became one of the students who received Texas A&M’s Health and Kinesiology Department Outstanding Student Award. Between 2018-2019, I became an NFL draft prospect and got scout’s attention. Also, in 2019, I became the indoor long jump record holder at East Central University, where I got my Master’s Degree in Sports Administration. This year, 2020, I started my second Master’s Degree. Lastly, this year, I was picked as a football pre-season All-American by College Primetime.

I was ready to check off more goals and accolades here at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor this fall, but Covid-19 has now affected our season and me personally. Our season is currently pushed back to the spring. This has affected my class schedule, financial planning, the football schedule, and the 2021 NFL draft for me. I’m now in a situation where I have to make sure I am eligible to possibly play spring and fall, and my class schedule is flexible with my football schedule. Financially it will cost more as well, because I’m staying longer, and I’ll be taking more classes. There is a lot that goes into it, practices will be different and arranged in a resocialization period. It’s deeper than x’s and o’s. With all these distractions, I’m making sure I read my goals every single day, which is what I’ve always done since being in high school. I am also continuing to pray, not just for myself, but for my teammates. It’s important that right now everyone works together to get everything back to normal and to keep people safe.
