Alex Khvatov: What are your measurements (height, weight and forty time)?
Montrell Washington: My height is 5’9 and weight is 175.
Alex Khvatov: How did you prepare for the 2020 season with no offseason training?
Montrell Washington: I always run as much as I can. I do conditioning every day. I also work on routes.
Alex Khvatov: Besides football, what other sports did you play in high school?
Montrell Washington: I ran track. I did 100m, 200m, 4x100m and long jump.
Alex Khvatov: What positions did you play in high school?
Montrell Washington: I played RB, WR, and a little CB.
Alex Khvatov: Coming out of high school, what programs showed interest in you?
Montrell Washington: Coming out of high school, my grades weren’t that good. I had two offers. I had Valdosta State, which was my first offer and another offer.
Alex Khvatov: How did you wind up at Samford?
Montrell Washington: My grades were a little bit higher towards my senior year. Samford offered me. It was my only D-I offer.
Alex Khvatov: How would you describe your overall career?
Montrell Washington: I played a little bit as a freshman. I played a little bit my sophomore year. I broke my hand in the offseason. I played with a cast on for two games. Junior season, I was a punt returner, WR and RB. I got more opportunities. I was number one in punt return average in the FCS. I also ran track for the school this past season. We won the indoor conference championship. It was the first indoor championship for the school.
Alex Khvatov: Do you take a lot of pride in being a return specialist?
Montrell Washington: I do take a lot of pride. It is one of the most important things. You can change the game on special teams. You can take it all the way to their 20-yard line. Special teams help the offense and the defense. I am on kickoffs as well. I like to make tackles. I am glad people are starting to see the impact that I have as a returner. I was named preseason All-American.
Alex Khvatov: What can we expect from your team this upcoming season?
Montrell Washington: We expect some wins. We want to win a lot.
Alex Khvatov: What are your strengths?
Montrell Washington: Energy that I bring to the team and my speed.
Alex Khvatov: What areas of your game are you trying to improve upon?
Montrell Washington: Everything. My speed, route running, seeing the holes and blocking.
Alex Khvatov: What is the highlight of your career up to this point?
Montrell Washington: I am starting to get recognition, and the team is getting it as well. Samford is starting to get noticed.
Alex Khvatov: What is the biggest lesson that you have taken away from your coaching staff?
Montrell Washington: Control what you can control. My attitude, doing the work when I need to do it and being on time.
Alex Khvatov: Who is your favorite NFL player?
Montrell Washington: Tyreek Hill.

Montrell Washington: QB Chris Oladokun, RB Jay Stanton, WR Kendall Watson, WR Jai’Rus Creamer, WR Peyton Ringer, OL Mike Williams, OL J.D. Beall, OL Gavin Orr, DB Coutrell Plair, DL Nelson Jordan, and safety Lamar Anderson.
Alex Khvatov: Who is the best player that you have faced on an opposing team?
Montrell Washington: DB Eric Jackson from Mercer.
Alex Khvatov: What is the most important trait for a WR?
Montrell Washington: You have to know how to catch the ball. The most important trait is having good hands.
Alex Khvatov: What do you enjoy most about football?
Montrell Washington: Being with the guys and the team. The bond that you form with each other.
Alex Khvatov: What are your hobbies?
Montrell Washington: I like to go fishing and do back flips.
Alex Khvatov: What do you want to do with your life after your football career is over?
Montrell Washington: After football, I want to be a PE coach. I also would like to work at a nursing home.
