Player Report – Week 10
Junior QB Zach Wilson (BYU)
Zach Wilson has been on fire this year. He had another big performance against Boise State. He completed 21/27 passes for 359 yards, two TD’s and one rushing TD on Friday night. He has a very strong arm and can fit the ball into tight windows. He has been very accurate to all areas of the field and efficient this season. He has been making good decisions and limiting his mistakes, something that he had an issue with in the past. He extends plays with his feet and makes things happen outside the pocket. At this point, he is my number three QB behind Trevor Lawrence and Justin Fields. If he declares for the 2021 NFL Draft, he will be a first round pick.
Senior QB D’Eriq King (Miami, FL)
Against NC State on Friday night, this was his best performance in the Miami Hurricanes uniform. King led a fourth quarter comeback and completed 31/41 passes, for 430 yards and five TD’s. He also added 105 rushing yards on 15 carries. He is a dual threat QB who can hurt you with his feet. He shows the ability to break tackles and refuses to go down on first contact. His accuracy and ball placement on the deep balls was pinpoint during this game. He displayed a strong arm. King is also a big-time competitor. However, he struggled with his accuracy against Pitt and Clemson, two of the better defenses in the ACC. His lack of size will also hurt him in the eyes of NFL teams. He played receiver early on in his career at Houston. I believe that he should make the switch to slot receiver at the next level because of his speed and athleticism. That would be his best position moving forward.
Junior WR Romeo Doubs (Nevada)
Doubs was coming off a sophomore season where he caught 44 catches for 649 yards and four TD’s. This season, he has emerged as the go-to-guy for his QB Carson Strong. He has been unstoppable through the first three games. Against Utah State, he hauled in seven receptions for 137 yards and three TD’s. He is 6’2, 200 pounds with excellent speed. He has shown the ability to get behind the defense and be a dangerous deep threat. He locates the ball well over his shoulder. You will hear his name be mentioned a lot more often in the next few weeks if he continues to put these types of numbers.
Senior RB Ronnie Rivers (Fresno State)
He had a big game in the win against UNLV. He had 133 rushing yards on 19 carries and three TD’s. He also caught six receptions for 99 yards and one TD. He is an undersized, versatile back who is very shifty. Rivers is more quick than fast. He displays terrific vision in the open field once he gets to the second level. He catches the ball extremely well coming out of the backfield. He also adds extra value as a returner.
