2021 Senior Bowl
Here are the players who have helped themselves during the 2021 Senior Bowl week.
OL Quinn Meinerz (Wisconsin-Whitewater)
Another D-III prospect Ali Marpet shined during the Senior Bowl and was drafted by the Bucs in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft. Meinerz is another small school prospect this year, a late add to the roster, from Wisconsin-Whitewater who stood out this week in pass protection. He was impressive in the one on one’s. He has lined up at both OG and C this week. He comes from a wrestling background. He has shown strong hands, terrific hand placement, excellent balance and good knee bend. During Thursday’s practice, he suffered a broken hand, but continued to play through it.
Check out our Interview with him during the summer.
QB Mac Jones (Alabama)
Alabama QB has stood out among all of the signal callers at the Senior Bowl this week. I love that he is competing here despite a long and grueling season. We have seen many top prospects skip the Senior Bowl in the past, but Jones knew that he can make up some ground here and show NFL teams that he deserves to be a first round pick. His accuracy, anticipation, decisiveness and leadership have been on display the entire week.
WR D’Wayne Eskridge (Western Michigan)
No one has been able to stop D’Wayne Eskridge in the one on one’s during the week. He can line up outside or in the slot. He is also a dangerous return man which gives him added value. He was a man on mission in the MAC this year. He displayed good hands and showed the ability to get off press coverage. He brings speed and quickness to the table. He can easily separate from the defensive backs. He was one of the fastest guys in college football this season. If the Scouting Combine would have taken place in February, Eskridge would have been the fastest guy in Indy.
He was a guest on our podcast back in August. He joined the show at the 41:45-minute mark. Please listen below:
RB Rhamondre Stevenson (Oklahoma)
It is tougher for running backs to stand out in all-star events. You have to show your catching prowess or your blocking ability. Coming into the event, we knew that Stevenson was a physical, downhill runner with very quick feet. But what impressed me the most about him at the Senior Bowl is his ability in pass protection. In the one on one’s, he dominated the opposition. He displayed great strength, terrific hand placement and outstanding balance.
WR Cade Johnson (South Dakota State)
Johnson didn’t play during the fall season because most FCS programs canceled their season. He displayed terrific hands. He caught everything that was thrown in his direction during the one on one’s. He also stood out with his quickness and good route running ability. On film, he is a player who will go across the middle and runs the full route tree. This guy is also a major competitor. He will be a good slot receiver at the next level.
Here is an Interview with Cade Johnson early this summer:
S Richie Grant (UCF)
He excelled in coverage this week. He undercut a slant route during Thursday’s practice and came up with an INT. He also broke up a couple of more passes during the one on one’s. Grant is an instinctive safety with very good ball skills. As a senior, he also improved as a wrap up tackler and took better angles to the ball against the run.
CB Aaron Robinson (UCF)
Another UCF defensive back who stood out during the Senior Bowl practices. Robinson is a slot corner who had a lot of success against the WR’s in press coverage in Mobile. He is a physical corner with good size, quick feet and terrific closing speed. He also does a good job in run support.
C Creed Humphrey (Oklahoma)
Humphrey comes from a wrestling background. He displayed his impressive strength and powerful hands during the one on one’s. Once he locked on, defensive linemen had a tough time disengaging from his grasp. He was able to drop his anchor, showed good balance and outstanding knee bend. He is one of the top interior OL in this draft. He should be selected in the first round.
