Well, I planed on taking the entire long weekend off;
however, I made a horrific mistake and felt an apology was
in order. So, thanks for all those e-mails. On that note,
I seemed to have spurred on some interaction, so perhaps
anyone left reading these articles can help me with a
dilemma. This one seems to start deep in the Bayou and
extends across the country to the Big Apple.
I
don’t suspect the top 5 will be determined based on the
“Best Player Available” method. If that were the case, the
draft may begin as such:
-
Houston: Matt
Leinart.
-
New Orleans: AJ
Hawk.
-
Tennessee: Mario
Williams….
-
NY Jets: Reggie
Bush.
-
Green Bay: Vernon
Davis.
Now, you won’t find a mock draft anywhere on the web that
will look like that.
Let’s examine the “Filling a need” method in the draft.
-
Houston:
D’Brickshaw Ferguson.
-
New Orleans: AJ
Hawk.
-
Tennessee: Matt
Leinart.
-
NY Jets: Mario
Williams.
-
Green Bay:
Michael Huff.
Here’s the dilemma……
Are
D’Brickshaw Ferguson, Michael Huff, Vernon Davis, and AJ
Hawk a reach in the top 5? I suspect some may believe they
are; however, if David Carr is sacked less, the Jets find a
replacement for Abraham, and the Packers strengthen their
secondary: all is well. The depth of the draft could easily
allow teams to fill an urgent need in the first round and
still select another 1-2 starters by the end of Day 1.
Here’s the interactive part……
Are
either of these scenario’s accurate? Does anyone believe
Reggie Bush will be available when the NY Jets are on the
clock? Not likely. The odds of Reggie Bush not being the 1st
name called at the draft are quite unimaginable at this
point.
Who
has the potential to be a NFL bust? If I could answer that
one, I’d probably be a rich man. I’m calling on anyone who
is reading to provide your assistance. NFL teams do not
rely on one voice, why should I.
Perhaps we can also examine a few over-rated/under-rated
individuals who seem destined for the first round.
Over-rated:
Chad Greenway, Jimmy Williams, Tambi Hali.
Under-rated:
Thomas Howard, Bobby Carpenter, LenDale White.
How
can Chad Greenway continue to be entrenched in the first
round after an extremely poor combine; while LenDale White
continually drops down the board for providing a poor
workout, which was determined to be the result of an
injury. Does the injury hurt his stock? I can answer that
in 2 words….Willis McGahee. The question is….What do you
think?
Thanks for reading. Based on everyone's thoughts and
opinions, I hope to finish my mock draft soon.
