Alex Khvatov:  What are your measurements (height, weight and forty time)?

D.J. Monroe:  Height is 5’11 , weight 190, and my pro day forty time was a 4.64.  I expected to run a lot faster than that.

Alex Khvatov:  Were you happy with your performance at the Pro Day?

D.J. Monroe:  I tweaked my hamstring on the last step of the forty.  I tried to push through it.  It certainly wasn’t up to par with my times.  I wasn’t happy with my day.  It will take about a week or two to get back to normal with the hamstring and get back to 100 percent.

Alex Khvatov:  Do you plan to workout at the Regional Combine?

D.J. Monroe:  I plan to work out at the regional combine in Miami on March 23rd, which is less than two weeks away.  But it will all depend on how my hamstring feels.  Hopefully it won’t be too bad.

Alex Khvatov:  What schools showed interest in you when you were coming out of high school?

D.J. Monroe:  Harvard, Presbyterian and the Citadel.

Alex Khvatov:  Why did you choose Harvard?

D.J. Monroe:  It was the best combination of athletics and academics.  It is pretty much just the name.  It is hard to say no to Harvard.

Alex Khvatov:  Where are you currently training for the NFL Draft?

D.J. Monroe:  I am training at home in South Carolina with Kevin Darlington at Speed 2 Compete training facility.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your strengths?

D.J. Monroe:  I think that I am aggressive with receivers.  I know my assignments. I am very disciplined with my eyes.  I am good at reading my keys.

Alex Khvatov:  What areas of your game do you need to improve upon?

D.J. Monroe:  I need to improve upon getting my head around on deeper balls and not just play the hands of receivers.  I need to turn around and be a receiver in that situation.

Alex Khvatov:  Describe your career at Harvard.

D.J. Monroe:  I started my career with a couple of injuries.  I tore my ACL my sophomore year.  I had surgery that November.  I came back for my junior year and hurt my PCL.  I came back and started 10 games my senior year.  Then I came back for my fifth year and had my best season statistically.  I led the nation in passes defended per game.  We also won the share of the Ivy League Title.  It was a sweat memory going out on top.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the highlight of your football career up to this point?

D.J. Monroe:  Last season was a highlight for me.  I enjoyed it.  I had a couple of really good games.   The game against Holy Cross was fun.  We wound up winning in triple overtime.

Alex Khvatov:  Did you have a good experience at the College All-Star Bowl in Greenville, South Carolina?

D.J. Monroe:  It was great.  I met a bunch of guys.  I was able to play with players from bigger Division I schools.  It boosted my confidence a lot that I can guard them and play against them.  I was able to make a couple of plays in front of the scouts.  I enjoyed the experience and the opportunity.

Alex Khvatov:  What is your favorite NFL team?

D.J. Monroe:  I root for the Jacksonville Jaguars.  It has been rough for them lately.

Alex Khvatov:  Who is your favorite NFL player?

D.J. Monroe:  I do like Maurice Jones-Drew.  He is a small guy, but he works his tail off.  He led the league in rushing a couple of years ago.  I enjoy watching him play.

Alex Khvatov:  What separates you from all of the other players at your position?

D.J. Monroe:  I think that it is my willingness to do whatever it takes to get the job done.  I will outwork anybody at my position.

Alex Khvatov:  Who was the toughest player that you have faced during your career?

D.J. Monroe:  I think that the best player was QB Jeff Mathews from Cornell.

Alex Khvatov:  Which underclassmen on your team should we keep an eye on next season?

D.J. Monroe:  DE Zach Hodges, CB Norman Hayes and WR Ricky Zorn.

Alex Khvatov:  What do you enjoy most about playing football?

D.J. Monroe:  I enjoy the camaraderie.  I love competing with guys on the team.  I love to hit.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your hobbies?

D.J. Monroe:  I like going to the movies, love bowling and enjoy taking road trips.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the coolest place that you have visited?

D.J. Monroe:  Grand Canyon was pretty cool.  I visited when I was a senior in high school.

Alex Khvatov:  What do you plan to do with your life after your football career is over?

D.J. Monroe:  I want to pursue a career in law.  I plan to apply to law school.

Alex Khvatov:  What does it feel like to be a small fish in a large pond?

D.J. Monroe:  It just feels like another day at the office for me.  It was the same for me coming out of high school.  I was not a highly recruited player and I still managed to get to this point.  All I need is an opportunity.  If I get it, I will take advantage of it.

Alex Khvatov:  Finish the sentence, D.J. Monroe is….

D.J. Monroe:  Off the field, I am pretty laid back.  On the field, I am dependable, aggressive and passionate.
