What makes this draft so good?

Over the next few months, all you will hear about is how much talent is in this draft.  The truth is, it may be the best draft in decades.  Starting with quarterbacks you have last year’s Heisman trophy winner and the leader of a team that could soon be 3-time National Champions.  And by-the-way, Matt Leinart was more productive this season.  You have what should be the two most physically gifted offensive threats since Michael Vick and they happen to play the two most important offensive positions.

Vince Young is the Texas Longhorns.  Without him they are maybe a top 20 team.  Young may not be as fast as Vick but he’s stronger and a better passer.  Both things can easily make him more dangerous then Vick, not to mention Young’s decision making and understanding of defenses is better then Vick’s was when he came out.

Then there is Reggie Bush, who may easily be the best running back to come out of college, maybe even the best ever.  With his physical tools and his vision, watching Reggie play is like eating Christmas dinner, it’s amazing no matter where you are.  I am always very skeptical about how a productive college running back will perform in the NFL, but this time I know Bush will put on a show.  But let’s not forget the terrific talent in the RB class behind Bush.  Williams, Maroney, Drew, and White all should be first round picks and behind them aren’t exactly a bunch of substitute teachers.

Don't forget about A.J. Hawk who may be the best LB since Urlacher.  His instincts and intensity are simply scary.  Mario Williams should be the best DE prospect since Julius Peppers began reeking havoc on NFL o-lines, but Mathias Kiwanuka won’t be far back on most draft boards.  Defensive backs Jimmy Williams and Michael Huff are as gifted physically as they are mentally and should quickly shore up problems in your favorite teams defensive secondary.  Mercedes Lewis is that TE that every quarterback dreams of.  He can block well and is a huge target and threat in the passing game.  Finally on the offensive line, D’Brickashaw Ferguson is a top 5 talent who not only has the physical tools, but he seems to get better every year.  His ability to protect the pass will make one team’s QB very very thankful.  The scariest part about this draft is I’ve just named 14 players that would probably go in the top 5 of any other draft and a lot of the guys right behind this group aren’t far behind.  April’s draft weekend is going to be a hoot and next season in the NFL should be very fun to watch.
