Escape Artists

First of all, it feels really good to be back and contributing to perhaps the most exciting football website I have came across on the Internet.  I know it has been awhile, so I hope a few people are still interested in my articles.

WOW, Da Bears…….Another impressive performance.

Not unlike most Packer die-hards, I convinced myself that last season was an anomaly and Favre and his supporting cast would be back in the Super Bowl hunt, starting with long time rivals…. Da Bears.  After all, Lovie Smith and crew were convinced injury plagued Rex Grossman was the answer to their losing seasons.  (Well, it seemed funny prior to opening weekend).

Fast forward to week 6 and after humiliating the Packers 26-0 on opening weekend, I decided to focus my attention on the rival Bears.  No, I am not changing allegiance, nor am I jumping on the bandwagon, but it doesn’t take a Rhodes scholar to realize the Chicago Bears are on pace to win more than a Super Bowl.  Forget comparisons to Ditka’s ’85 Bears, I’m talking about Don Shula and the ’72 Dolphins.

At 6-0 should anyone really be thinking about this seemingly unachievable feat?  After all, perhaps it is simply a coincidence that both teams have a man named Griese on their roster.

Now, they are faced with a bye week with plenty of time to prepare for the hapless 49ers, followed by the disappointing Dolphins (who no one has mistaken for the boys of ’72).

November will be a difficult month to maintain momentum on both sides of the ball, with back – back trips to the Big Apple.  However, the fickle teams in New York may not be consistent enough to keep pace for 60 grueling minutes with Grossman and the Bears, which gives Tom Brady the opportunity to stop the madness in Chicago and allow the boys of ’72 to open the champagne and celebrate another year of immortality.

Now, look at their opponents for the next 5 weeks.  Almost like Lovie Smith had the chance to select his own opponents.  Minnesota, St. Louis, Tampa Bay, and Detroit do not seem to be great threats against the Bears on defense and I suspect Rex Grossmann is equally excited about playing these teams, regardless of location.

So before you know it, the Bears are sitting at 15-0 and in the final week of the schedule and low and behold, we are right back to where we started.  Playing against my beloved Green Bay Packers, and I really have to confess that if this article is more than a fairy tale, I may find myself wearing a cheese head, but silently hoping I am watching history in the making.

Did I forget to mention the Super Bowl is in Miami?  I’m sure this is merely a coincidence.

Look forward to getting back in the groove and as before, I really enjoy your feedback.
