Alex Khvatov:  Describe your first practice at the Senior Bowl.

Michael Buchanan:  I think that I did a pretty good job.  It was a little rough today.  Everyone was feeling themselves out.  We were learning.  But we had our first practice in an NFL type of atmosphere.  I think that I played with a pretty good motor today.  I am looking forward to having a much better day tomorrow and show coaches what I can do against top talent in the country.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your strengths?

Michael Buchanan:  I think that it is my motor.  I have quickness and athleticism.  I play well in space.  I also have an attitude.  I never quit.

Alex Khvatov:  What areas of your game are you trying to improve upon this week?

Michael Buchanan:  I want to show teams that I can play more solid against the run.  I want to show them that I can be physical.  I am one of the smaller defensive ends here, but I want to show them that I am tough enough.  I can take on the double teams.

Alex Khvatov:  Do you see yourself playing DE or OLB at the next level?

Michael Buchanan:  I think that I can do either one of them.  I have done a lot of LB work during my career at Illinois.  I am here to show that.  But I really want to prove that I can play DE in a 4-3 defense.

Alex Khvatov:  You had a down senior season, what was the reason behind it?

Michael Buchanan:  Coaches did different things with me this year.  We had a new scheme.  I was doing a lot of things that I wasn’t used to doing.  I definitely could have done better this year.  But I am just trying to prove that I am still the same guy who had a successful junior season.

Alex Khvatov:  Tell me about your career at Illinois.

Michael Buchanan:  I would say that Illinois fans are happy with what I did.  I put together four good years.  I came in and played as a freshman.  I think that I progressed every year.  I didn’t have the numbers that I should have had my senior year, but I think that I progressed.  I played hard for Illini.

Alex Khvatov:  Who is the toughest OL that you faced in practice during your first day at the Senior Bowl?

Michael Buchanan:  I played predominantly the right side today.  I only saw the tackle from Central Michigan (Eric Fisher) and the tackle from Syracuse (Justin Pugh).  The tackle from Central Michigan is very solid.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your hobbies?

Michael Buchanan:  I like to play video games and watch movies.  I like to hang out with the guys.  I just do all of the normal stuff.  I like to rest.  If I am not on the football field, I watch NFL games.  I am also a huge basketball fan.

Alex Khvatov:  Describe your teammate OG Hugh Thornton.

Michael Buchanan:  He is a nasty man right there.  He is one of the toughest guys that I have ever played with or against.  He is a great player.  He has a great passion for the game.

Alex Khvatov:  Finish the sentence, Michael Buchanan is….

Michael Buchanan:  I think that I am a hard worker.  I put in the time outside of the field.  It has helped me get to this point now.  I am a pretty chilled guy off the field.  I am not a huge talker.
