Alex Khvatov: Coming out of high school, what made you choose the University of Missouri?
Michael Egnew: They just had really good coaches, and it felt like home.
Alex Khvatov: You put up some impressive statistics during your junior campaign, what was the major reason behind your breakout year?
Michael Egnew: We just had a really good surrounding staff and a good quarterback. Team did well which allowed me to do well.
Alex Khvatov: You were the No. 1 tight end on most draft boards heading into your senior season, were you disappointed with the way the year unfolded for you from the individual standpoint?
Michael Egnew: Not necessarily. I never look at football from an individual standpoint. As long as the team is winning, it is the most important thing to me.
Alex Khvatov: How have you been training for the NFL Draft?
Michael Egnew: I was training at ATI in Arizona. After the Scouting Combine, I came back to Columbia. I am training on campus right now. I am trying to get better and more prepared for the next level.
Alex Khvatov: Describe your overall Senior Bowl experience to us.
Michael Egnew: It was fun. I met a lot of people. It was a good experience. You meet a lot of scouts and coaches, which is fun. It is fun to play with the other top players in the country.
Alex Khvatov: Did you get a chance to bond with any of the players during that week?
Michael Egnew: I had a couple of buddies at the Senior Bowl. Brandon Weeden is a good friend. He is a good guy, and I played against him.
Alex Khvatov: You performed very well at the Scouting Combine, were you personally satisfied with your overall results?
Michael Egnew: Yeah, I think that the overall results were good. I did well. I am not surprised at all. I ran faster forty times before. Overall, I put up some good numbers.
Alex Khvatov: Tell us about your recent Pro Day.
Michael Egnew: It definitely went well. I had a certain level of excitement. It was unique.
Alex Khvatov: Have you had any personal workouts with any teams?
Michael Egnew: I worked out for several teams. I met some interesting coaches that put me through a lot of drills. I am living in the moment and I am trying to soak it all in. Generally, I have gotten some positive feedback from teams.
Alex Khvatov: What are your strengths on the football field?
Michael Egnew: My strong suit is obviously pass catching. But I am also good at blocking. I like the physical part of the game.
Alex Khvatov: What areas of your game do you need to improve upon?
Michael Egnew: Everyone is fast and strong at the next level. I need to get stronger and use my strength in a more fundamental way. I need to get faster and quicker because athletes are much different there.
Alex Khvatov: Who is the one NFL player that you would compare your game to?
Michael Egnew: Jimmy Graham or Gronkowski. I also bring something else to the table.
Alex Khvatov: What are the highlights of your football career up to this point?
Michael Egnew: Definitely winning the bowl games. We won the Alamo Bowl my freshman year and we won the Independence Bowl last year. Winning all of those bowl games with my team was very rewarding.
Alex Khvatov: Who is your favorite player?
Michael Egnew: I have been watching all of the tight ends. But I admire Jimmy Graham and Gronkowski. I also root for Danario Alexander and Blaine Gabbert. Blaine is one of my best friends.
Alex Khvatov: Which underclassman on your team should we keep an eye on in the future?
Michael Egnew: RB Marcus Murphy is going to do really well. He will surprise a lot of people.
Alex Khvatov: What do you enjoy most about playing football?
Michael Egnew: I enjoy winning. I definitely enjoy being with my team after the win.
