:
I had interest out of UCA, Arkansas Tech University, Missouri
State and Arkansas State. I went on a visit to Mississippi
State.
Alex
Khvatov:
What made you choose Central Arkansas?
Nathan Brown:
I think it was the coaching staff, the scheme and the great success
that this school had with quarterbacks. They always had a
competitive team. It is also a great location for a school. It is
40 minutes from my home, and my family was able to come to my
games.
Alex
Khvatov:
What is your workout regimen like right now in
the off-season?
Nathan Brown:
Right now, I work out four times a week. I run and lift weights.
It is a two hour workout. I throw to our receivers two times a week
and try to get a head start.
Alex
Khvatov:
How does it feel to be a small fish in a large
pond?
Nathan Brown:
It is exciting
and surreal to me. It needs to be talked about it. It is not a
reality yet, getting this recognition. It is neat to put
Central Arkansas on the map.
Alex
Khvatov:
What are your strengths on the football field?
Nathan Brown:
My arm strength. I can make any throw. It has to be my knowledge
for the game. I gather a lot of knowledge and put it onto the
field. I have leadership qualities that a QB has to have.
Alex
Khvatov:
What areas of your game do you need to improve
upon during your senior season?
Nathan Brown:
I get greedy when we are down. I have to realize that I am not
going to get all of the points with one throw. I have to work on
being more consistent.
Alex
Khvatov:
What is the highlight of your football career up
to this point?
Nathan Brown:
Last year on regional TV, I was able to set UCA record when I threw
7 touchdowns. The whole 2005 season was memorable as well when we
won a Conference Championship.
Alex
Khvatov:
What is your favorite NFL team?
Nathan Brown:
Growing up, I was a Dallas Cowboys fan. In the 90’s, they had all
of that success winning Super Bowls.
Alex Khvatov:
Who is
your favorite player?
Nathan Brown:
Brett Favre. He just got things done. He was not the tallest or
the strongest player, but he figured out a way to win. To be honest
with you, he got more done with less talent. This is who I want to
be as a QB and as a football player.
Alex
Khvatov:
Who is the toughest player that you have faced
during your career?
Nathan Brown:
I think college wise, it was linebacker Michael Eubanks. He was an
unbelievable talent and a phenomenal player. During the 2005
season, he would come on a lot of blitzes and make a lot of plays.
In high school, I played against RB Peyton Hillis. He was a heck of
a talent.
Alex Khvatov:
Which underclassman on your team should we keep
an eye on in the future?
Nathan Brown:
I think that we have a RT by the name of Lane Freiwald. He is 6’7”
and 320 pounds. He is going to be a junior. He is a great
athlete. He is a top tackle with good feet. He is strong and he
moves well.
Alex Khvatov:
What
qualities should a quarterback possess in order to be successful on
any level?
Nathan Brown:
I think that you have to have the respect of your teammates. He
should have a great work ethic. As a QB, you are going to be looked
on as a leader. I take it seriously in my preparation. You have to
be ready mentally in practice. You can have the physical skills,
but if you don’t prepare right you will be less successful. You
have to put in the time.
Alex Khvatov:
What does
it take to be winner?
Nathan Brown:
In
football going all out and not taking it for granted. You have to
prepare for your opponent in practice. When you go out, mess around
and not put in the effort, your success rate will go down
drastically. You have to prepare in practice like you are playing
tomorrow, give it your all and build off the next day.
Alex Khvatov:
What are
some of your personal and team goals for your senior season?
Nathan Brown:
Individual goals build up to team goals. I want to win the
Southland Conference. Also I want for our team to finish in the Top
25 which we have done two of the last three years. Individually, I
don’t have too many goals. I just want to help our team win. I
want to top what I did last year. I want to cut my INT’s in half
and throw for 3,500 yards. I threw 26 TD’s last year, I want to top
that. It will be grand.
Alex
Khvatov:
What do you enjoy most about playing football?
Nathan Brown:
I think the thing that I enjoy most is time spent with my
teammates. You learn about your teammates and the commodore that
you build with them and the coaches.
Alex
Khvatov:
Has the NFL always been in the back of your mind?
Nathan Brown:
It is always been a dream of mine. I like to watch the guys on
Sunday. It still hasn’t kicked in. It is an honor, the fact that
you are being mentioned with the NFL. Last year helped me a lot. I
have to prove myself this year.
Alex
Khvatov:
What is the one thing in your daily life that you
can't live without?
Nathan Brown:
I think ultimately I am a religious guy. God
runs my life. He tells me what he wants me to do in life and he
drives me everyday.
Alex Khvatov:
Tell me
something about yourself that makes you unique.
Nathan Brown:
I think in this day and age I am such a family person. I am close
to my parents and brother and sister. I get a lot of my strength
from my mom and dad. I want to pass that on to my siblings. It
makes my life really unique. They support me, and I support them.
Alex
Khvatov:
How important is education to you?
Nathan Brown:
I think it is very important. If you want to do
anything in sports in college, you have to make the grades. It
sparks what you are in life.
Alex
Khvatov:
What do you want to do after your football career
is over?
Nathan Brown:
I am a business education major. I want to get an education degree
and go into coaching. I want to coach in high school or college.
Alex
Khvatov:
What are your hobbies?
Nathan Brown:
Being from Arkansas, I definitely like to hunt and fish. Other than
that, I like to hang out with friends and I enjoy the outdoors. I
want to travel.
Alex
Khvatov:
Finish the sentence, Nathan Brown is…
Nathan Brown:
On the field, I am someone teammates can look up to. I have one of
the better work ethics on the team. I am reliable and consistent on
the field. I have overall leadership. Off-the-field, I am just an
example setter. I am a Christian. I try to do things right. I
won’t be a problem. I try to live my life right. I have high
commitment.
