By: Alex Khvatov

Alex
Khvatov:
What are your measurements (height, weight and forty time)?
Tim Toone:
I am 5’10” officially and I weighed in at 184 pounds. I
haven’t been timed in the forty yet.
Alex Khvatov:
What other sports did you play in high school?
Tim Toone:
I played soccer and baseball. I think that I could have
played baseball in college.
Alex Khvatov:
What schools showed interest in you during the recruiting
process besides Weber State?
Tim Toone:
Northern Arizona talked to me. They wanted me to go to
their school for two seasons before I left for my mission.
I didn’t want to do that. Nobody showed too much interest
in me because I was leaving on a mission.
Alex Khvatov:
Why did you choose Weber State?
Tim Toone:
I chose them because they offered me and understood that I
had to leave on a mission. I paid my own way for one
semester and then I left on my mission. When I came back, I
was on scholarship after that.
Alex Khvatov:
You went on a mission to West Africa for two years, describe
that experience to me.
Tim Toone:
It was difficult, but it helped me grow up. It made me more
responsible. I had life goals after I came back from the
mission. I knew how to work hard towards those goals.
Alex Khvatov:
What are your strengths on the football field?
Tim Toone:
My speed is one of them. I run really good routes. I find
the holes in coverage. I can catch the ball really well.
Alex Khvatov:
What areas of your game do you need to improve upon?
Tim Toone:
Blocking is definitely one of them. I need to be more
consistent in my blocking. I have to get stronger. I am
always looking to improve in everything. I need to be able
to read coverage better because they do so many tricky
things in the NFL.
Alex Khvatov:
You were able to put together a couple of very good seasons
at Weber State as a junior and as a senior, what was the key
behind your success?
Tim Toone:
I had more confidence. The coaches believed in me and gave
me a role. I believed that I would be able to make plays
for my team.
Alex Khvatov:
What were your personal and team goals heading into your
senior season?
Tim Toone:
We wanted to win the Big Sky outright. During my junior
year, we tied Montana for the Conference title. We thought
that we could win it. But we had a rough season with the
coaches leaving. During my junior season, we were together
as a team. We had each other’s back.
Alex Khvatov:
What will you miss the most about Weber State?
Tim Toone:
The friendships with the players and the coaches. We all
worked hard. We made a lot of improvements for the
school.
Alex Khvatov:
What is the most memorable moment of your college career?
Tim Toone:
I guess that it would have to be this year. We were playing
against Portland State. We were down by three points with
1:14 left in the game. We had to go 80 yards. We were at
their 40-yard line and it was fourth down and three yards to
go. We ran a slant route. They have been shutting down
that play all day long. I slipped behind the defenders and
ran it in for a touchdown to win the game.
Alex Khvatov:
What is your favorite NFL team?
Tim Toone:
I like the Arizona Cardinals.
Alex Khvatov:
Who is your favorite NFL player?
Tim Toone:
Larry Fitzgerald just makes plays. He does it in a quite
manner. He makes a play and he just hands the ball to the
referee. He is a no-nonsense type of guy.
Alex Khvatov:
Which underclassmen on your team should we keep an eye on in
the future?
Tim Toone:
Our QB Cameron Higgins. I think that he is able to
understand the defenses. He knows what is going on. It is
his greatest quality. He needs to work on keeping that
composure in big games and stick to the plan. OG J.C. Oram
is another player to watch.
Alex Khvatov:
How important is education to you?
Tim Toone:
It is the most important thing that you can do. Football
has been a dream for me, but I never thought that I would
play in the NFL. Education will help me provide for myself
and my family that I plan to have.
Alex Khvatov:
What do you plan to do with your life after football?
Tim Toone:
If I don’t get picked in the draft, I am planning to go to
Grad school for physical therapy in November.
Alex Khvatov:
What is the greatest lesson that you have learned in life?
Tim Toone:
You have to work hard for everything that you get. Nothing
is handed to you. Hard work and dedication is what it’s all
about.
Alex Khvatov:
What are your hobbies?
Tim Toone:
I like to mountain bike. I like to go camping and hiking.
I like cars. I have a 1966 Mustang that I am still trying
to restore.
Alex Khvatov:
Is the NFL a dream or a reality at this point?
Tim Toone:
I think that it is a reality. I probably won’t get drafted,
but teams will see how hard I have worked and give me a
chance. Someone will invite me to their camp, and I will
have a chance to make the team.
Alex Khvatov:
Finish the sentence, Tim Toone is….
Tim Toone:
A hard-working guy. I am down to earth. I like to relax.
I work hard at everything that I do. |
