Alex Khvatov: What are your measurements (height, weight and forty time)?
Ty Holmes: 6’0, 235, 4.5.
Alex Khvatov: Where are you currently training for the NFL Draft?
Ty Holmes: I am training at ECU.
Alex Khvatov: What do you plan to show scouts during your Pro Day?
Ty Holmes: Hopefully, I will show them that I have some speed. I also want to show that I am coachable. I hope to run a 6.90 in the L drill and a 4.5 forty. I want to get about 20 reps on the bench press.
Alex Khvatov: What are your strengths?
Ty Holmes: I would say that my speed is my biggest strength. I can maneuver around OL. I cover pretty well as a linebacker.
Alex Khvatov: What areas of your game do you need to improve upon?
Ty Holmes: I need to take better angles in the run game.
Alex Khvatov: What schools showed interest in you when you were coming out of high school?
Ty Holmes: A few schools were interested in me. I narrowed it down to NC State and East Carolina.
Alex Khvatov: Why did you choose East Carolina?
Ty Holmes: I chose East Carolina because of the atmosphere that they had. I felt like I would fit in better. I wanted to go to East Carolina because Skip Holtz was there. They were winning.
Alex Khvatov: Describe your career with the Pirates.
Ty Holmes: I liked what we accomplished this past year. We went to a bowl game this year. We won ten games. I think that we tied the most wins in school history. Individually, I had a pretty good junior season.
Alex Khvatov: What is the highlight of your football career up to this point?
Ty Holmes: My best game was against Houston my junior season. I had an INT and I ran it back for a TD.
Alex Khvatov: What is your favorite NFL team?
Ty Holmes: My favorite team is the Pittsburgh Steelers. They have a huge history, and I like how they conduct themselves. Their defense is so respected in football circles. They play hard and get after you.
Alex Khvatov: Who is your favorite NFL player?
Ty Holmes: Jerome Bettis, Ray Lewis, Bob Sanders and Troy Polamalu.
Alex Khvatov: What separates you from all of the other players at your position?
Ty Holmes: My speed at the position. I have the ability to cover in space. I can run with lighter offensive players. A lot of teams at the next level are looking for a LB that can cover.
Alex Khvatov: Who was the toughest player that you have faced during your career?
Ty Holmes: Toughest running backs that I played against were (Trey) Watts from Tulsa, Giovani Bernard from UNC and #5 RB from UAB (Darrin Reaves). Houston was the toughest offense that I played against.
Alex Khvatov: Which underclassmen on your team should we keep an eye on next season?
Ty Holmes: WR Justin Hardy, LB Zeek Bigger and LB Brandon Williams.
Alex Khvatov: What is the most important quality that a LB should have?
Ty Holmes: I think that they should have a leadership mentality. They should do things the right way. Also when you miss a tackle on the field, you should just forget about it and do it the right way on the next play.
Alex Khvatov: What will you miss the most about the University of East Carolina?
Ty Holmes: The atmosphere. I will miss going out there on game day. We have a great fan base. They travel everywhere we go.
Alex Khvatov: What are your hobbies?
Ty Holmes: Off the field, I like to shop. I like clothes. I like to play PlayStation and watch movies. I also like to cook.
Alex Khvatov: What is your favorite meal to cook?
Ty Holmes: The favorite thing to cook is chicken.
Alex Khvatov: What do you plan to do with your life after your football career is over?
Ty Holmes: I want to maybe coach somewhere. I want to be around the game in some way. My friend and I have talked about opening up a community center. We want to give back to the kids and the community.
Alex Khvatov: What is the biggest lesson that you have learned in life?
Ty Holmes: It is not what you know, but it is who you know.
Alex Khvatov: Finish the sentence, Ty Holmes is….
Ty Holmes: A great guy who loves his family and loves to play the game of football. I want to have a prosperous career at the next level.
