William Moore Interview
Safety - Missouri

By: Alex Khvatov

2/11/09

Alex Khvatov:  Tell me about your Senior Bowl experience.

William Moore:  It was new and fun.  It was good to see guys that you watch on the TV up close.  It was new to me.  It was a new defense.  It was pretty intense.

Alex Khvatov:  What did you learn from the players and the coaches that were there during that week?

William Moore:  From the players, I learned that everyone was motivated and they wanted to show that they belonged.  I enjoy myself around most of the players.  Most of them had good personalities.  Coaches were great.  They were all about football, but I had the chance to get to know them off-the-field.

Alex Khvatov:  Were you able to bond with any of the players at the Senior Bowl?

William Moore:  Yes, sir.  I was North team.  Macho Harris was a good guy and we will definitely keep in touch.  Louis Delmas was another that I would stay in touch with.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your measurements (height, weight and forty time)?

William Moore:  6’1, 228, 4.48 40 time.

Alex Khvatov:  Coming out of high school, what programs showed interest in you?

William Moore:  Missouri was number one.  They showed a lot of interest.  There were also Illinois, Purdue, Tennessee, Kansas and Kansas State.

Alex Khvatov:  You were a good receiver in high school, how did you wind up on the defensive side of the ball?

William Moore:  I was also a good defensive back.  I had a lot of INT.  Missouri recruited me as an athlete.  They tried me at CB first.  They never put me at receiver.  It is pretty tough to find a good defensive back.  Then I moved from CB to safety.

Alex Khvatov:  What made you choose Missouri?

William Moore:  Number one, they were in the state.  They had a great coaching staff.  They didn’t put up a front.  I committed early to them and never looked back.  I had a Missouri Tigers’ shirt when I was young.  It was not a hard decision for me.  It was the right decision for me.

Alex Khvatov:  What were your expectations from a team and personal standpoint coming into this season?

William Moore:  Expectations were high from everyone.  We had the same guys coming back.  I mean you can’t win them all.  Teams got better in the conference.  Sometimes you just fall short, but 10 wins isn’t bad.

Alex Khvatov:  Were you happy with a 10-win season and a win in the Bowl Game?

William Moore:  Definitely.  We had back to back 10 win seasons.  We broke a lot of records.  Our class will always be remembered.

Alex Khvatov:
How would you rate your performance during your senior campaign?

William Moore:  I would have to give it an eight or a nine.  I fought through a lot of injuries.  I proved that I won’t quit.  I fought and I did a decent job just to be there.

Alex Khvatov:  Did injuries affect your play in a major way?

William Moore:  Definitely man.  Injuries never been a part of my game.  Last year it was my first year playing ball through injuries.  I had to fight injuries at my position.

Alex Khvatov:  Do you have any regrets not coming out after your junior season?

William Moore:  No, it hit me before, but I have never had any regrets.  I graduated with my degree and another 10 win season.

Alex Khvatov:  Do you feel that you need to lose some weight or are you comfortable playing at 225 or 230 pounds?

William Moore:  I know that I can play at that weight.  I can run and move.  I was just affected by injuries last season.  My weight didn’t have anything to do with my performance.

Alex Khvatov:  How are you preparing for the Scouting Combine?

William Moore:  I am at the API training facility in Arizona.  I am working on getting stronger, faster and also working on the Wonderlic Test.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the most memorable moment of your football career up to this point?

William Moore:  Have to go with the Cotton Bowl win in 2007.  We lost two games at the end of that season, but we cam back and dominated that Bowl Game in 2007.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your strengths on the football field?

William Moore:  Number one is just speed and passion for the game.  I play hard.  I am a student of the game.  I have got a lot of strength.

Alex Khvatov:  What areas of your game do you need to improve upon?

William Moore:  Staying healthy.

Alex Khvatov:  Who is the one safety in the NFL that you would compare your game to?

William Moore:  Brian Dawkins.  I love the way he plays.  I love his passion.  He comes back every week and just balls at a high level.

Alex Khvatov:  What is your favorite NFL team?

William Moore:  I would go with the Steelers.  It is all about the black and gold.  I remember how they had a great defense throughout my high school and college years.

Alex Khvatov:  Who is your favorite player?

William Moore:  A couple of years ago, it was Barry Sanders.

Alex Khvatov:  Who is the toughest player that you have faced during your career?

William Moore:  I have to say Sidney Rice.  He was just fast.  He was burning Missouri in the Bowl Game.  He looked exactly the same on the field like he did on film.  You can’t say that about most guys.

Alex Khvatov:  Which underclassman on your team should we keep an eye on in the future?

William Moore:  Definitely, linebacker Sean Weatherspoon.  He is a tough player.  He fits the position perfectly.  He is consistent, strong.  He is good and fast.

Alex Khvatov:  Tell me about your teammate WR Jeremy Maclin.

William Moore:  He is as good as advertised.  When he gets free, he is bound to change plays.  You watch him at the Jumbo Traun and you go “wow”.  He is always busting punt and kick returns.  I haven’t seen a player like that in awhile.

Alex Khvatov:  Describe your defensive lineman Evander “Ziggy” Hood to us.

William Moore:  I will take Ziggy to war with me.  He is not a very vocal guy, but everyone listens when he does speak.  You definitely want Ziggy on your team.  He is also a great student in the classroom.

Alex Khvatov:  What do you enjoy most about playing safety?

William Moore:  I enjoy the responsibility of being the last line of defense.  When another team scores a touchdown, the first question they ask is where the safety was.  I would be honored to be one of the best safeties when I am done.

Alex Khvatov:  Does it matter to you where you are picked in the upcoming NFL Draft?

William Moore:  Yeah, it does.  Over the past couple of years, I have tried my best to be picked high in the draft.  It is not about the money, it is just about the rounds.  I have put on a lot time and effort on the field.  It would be disappointing if I don’t get picked in the first two rounds.

Alex Khvatov:  What do you plan to do with your life after football?

William Moore:  A lot of goals.  I want to be happy.  I plan on coaching in high school.  I want to be able to use my degree.  I want to do many things.  I got the drive

Alex Khvatov:  I heard that you are talented musician, what kind of music do you perform?

William Moore:  Rap and R&B.  I like producing rather than performing.  I like to lay instrumentals and record in the studio.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your hobbies?

William Moore:  I don’t go out much.  I write music and play video games.  I like to play basketball though I haven’t done that in a long time.  I like to hang out with my niece and nephew.

Alex Khvatov:  How important is education to you?

William Moore:  Very important.  Graduation from college was a big deal to me and my family.  I am the first one from my family to graduate from college.  I got the degree in psychology and I hope that I can use it to my advantage in the future. .

Alex Khvatov:  What makes you unique?

William Moore:  Number one, I hate to fail.  I never quit.  When I start something, I finish it.  When I step on the field, I go and play football.  The worst thing that can happen is missing a tackle

Alex Khvatov:  If you could have dinner with one person, who would it be and why?

William Moore:  Martin Luther King.

Alex Khvatov:  Finish the sentence, William Moore is….

William Moore:  A great individual on and off-the-field.  I have overcome a lot of adversity in my life.  My grandmother raised me.  Going through adversity in life has made me stronger.  I am a great person.
