Alex Khvatov: What are your measurements (height, weight and forty time)?
Jarrod Cann: Height is 5’10, weight is 205 pounds and I run a consistent 4.4, maybe even better.
Alex Khvatov: Where are you currently training for the NFL Draft?
Jarrod Cann: At school. My coaches are here. I stayed with my team.
Alex Khvatov: What can we expect from you at the Pro Day?
Jarrod Cann: It will be on March 20th at UConn. I want to prove how hard I have been working. I want to prove that I can measure with most of the guys. I have great strength and good speed. I am going to compete.
Alex Khvatov: Coming out of high school, what programs showed interest in you?
Jarrod Cann: I played only one year of high school football. I was a baseball guy. I did well the first game. My friend’s dad helped me get into the Fork Union Military Academy. I spent an extra year there. After the academy, I wasn’t eligible because I took the SAT’s a little bit later. I went to Nassau community college for a year and did well. I made the switch from RB to safety. I adjusted well. The First offer came from Central Connecticut.
Alex Khvatov: Why did you transfer to Central Connecticut State?
Jarrod Cann: I felt good about the coaches. It was a good group of guys. My mom liked what they had to say. I went with the first offer.
Alex Khvatov: Describe your overall career.
Jarrod Cann: It was a roller coaster ride. The first two years were rough. We had losing seasons. We went 2-9 and then we went 4-8 the next season. We changed the losing culture my senior year. We ended up winning the conference championship and went to the playoffs. I started all three seasons. I grew every year. I transitioned from a different position. I put it altogether my senior year.
Alex Khvatov: Winning as a team your senior year, what did that accomplishment mean to you personally?
Jarrod Cann: It meant a lot. Not many people know this, but my mother passed away during my senior year. It was a surreal experience. I was playing for something more when I lost my mother. I love my teammates like brothers.
Alex Khvatov: What are your strengths?
Jarrod Cann: In the beginning, I was physically gifted. I can do 225 bench press 28 times without struggling. I have always been a bit stronger. But I learned the position. I developed better instincts during my senior year.
Alex Khvatov: What areas of your game are you trying to improve upon?
Jarrod Cann: I am working on all areas of the game.
Alex Khvatov: What is the highlight of your career up to this point?
Jarrod Cann: It was definitely my senior year. We were playing for something more. We came away with the conference championship. It was a big achievement for our team. We lost to UNH in the playoffs, but we were missing our starting QB.
Alex Khvatov: What is your favorite NFL team?
Jarrod Cann: I am a Philly fan. We had the SB party at the school. We were watching the game and were happy when they won.
Alex Khvatov: Who is your favorite NFL player?
Jarrod Cann: Brian Dawkins is still my favorite NFL player.
Alex Khvatov: What is the most important trait for a safety?
Jarrod Cann: Leadership. You are the QB of the defense.
Alex Khvatov: What players on your team should we keep an eye on for next season?
Jarrod Cann: Most definitely DB Tymir Hinton. He played safety this past year. ILB Kenneth Keen.
Alex Khvatov: What do you enjoy most about football?
Jarrod Cann: I like meeting new people. I am a family-oriented guy.
Alex Khvatov: What are your hobbies?
Jarrod Cann: I am a country boy. I like fishing and crabbing.
Alex Khvatov: What do you want to do with your life after your football career is over?
Jarrod Cann: A couple of things. I have an economics degree. I want to own a fitness center. My best option is go to a PT school and become a physical therapist before that.
Alex Khvatov: Finish the sentence, Jarrod Cann is….
Jarrod Cann: War like on and off the field. I will never give up. I am a leader everywhere I go.
