Kyle Romano

Long Snapper – Senior

Austin Peay

Alex Khvatov:  What are your measurements (height, weight and forty time)?

Kyle Romano:  I am 6’2, 245 and I run about a 4.9.

Alex Khvatov:  Where are you currently training for the NFL Draft?

Kyle Romano:  I train back in Dallas.  I lift by myself.  I also train with free agent specialists at SMU 3-4 times a week.

Alex Khvatov:  What can we expect from you at the pro day?

Kyle Romano:  At Austin Peay in Tennessee.  We don’t have on set yet.  But it should be late March/early April.  I am trying to get into different pro days at other schools.

Alex Khvatov:  Coming out of high school, what programs showed interest in you?

Kyle Romano:  Back in high school, I was a wrestler.  I played lacrosse and was a snapper for four years.  I never went to the camps.  I walked on at Stephen F. Austin.  They needed a LS, and I played two years after redshirting.  I got an offer at Austin Peay for a full ride.  They liked me a lot.  They had great coaches and a great program.  We went 8-4 and should have made the playoffs.  I went to Grad school at Austin Peay.

Alex Khvatov:  Why did you choose Stephen F. Austin?

Kyle Romano:  I went to school there.  I enrolled there as a student.  They had an open tryout.  I came out to practice.  I had about 10 snaps.  The coach gave me a thumps up.  I have a decent stature.  I joined the team.

Alex Khvatov:  Why did you transfer to Austin Peay?

Kyle Romano:  I knew a snapping coach in Texas.  He told me about Austin Peay.  They were looking for a long snapper.  I gave them a call.  I already graduated.  I took a 10-hour drive to Tennessee.  I met up with the head coach and the team.  They loved me.  We formed a good bond.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your strengths?

Kyle Romano:  I get along with people well.  I have good stature.  I do my job and get off the field.

Alex Khvatov:  What areas of your game are you trying to improve upon?

Kyle Romano:  I always try to become a better snapper.  I am always working on my technique and footwork.  I take it seriously.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the highlight of your career up to this point?

Kyle Romano:  After the special teams camps, I started getting exposure.  It was my defining moment.  I was ranked sixth out of the 22 snappers.  I got a 1A ranking two weeks ago at the Zauner camp in Gilbert, Arizona.  They ran a tough camp.  They had a lot of good snappers there.  Another special moment was when my younger brother surprised me on senior night at Austin Peay.  He never came to my football games.  I see him once or twice a year because he is in the military.  My dad flew him in.  It was cool that he could see me play.

Alex Khvatov:  What is your favorite NFL team?

Kyle Romano:  The Cowboys.  I was born and raised in Dallas.

Alex Khvatov:  Who is your favorite NFL player?

Kyle Romano:  I grew up as a Tony Romo fan.  I like the guy on and off the field.  He is a funny guy.

Alex Khvatov:  What players on your team should we keep an eye on for next season?

Kyle Romano:  Oregon transfer DL Austin Maloata is a kid that will go in the draft and the Combine.  #75 LG Ryan Rockensuess is a huge kid.  They are both going to be seniors.

Alex Khvatov:  Who is the best player that you have faced during your career?

Kyle Romano:  Kansas State FB Glenn Gronkowski.  Gronkowski’s little brother.  In January, I met Shane Tripucka from Texas A&M.  I snapped to him at College Gridiron Showcase.  He was an excellent punter.

Alex Khvatov:  How would you describe your overall experience at the College Gridiron Showcase in Texas?

Kyle Romano:  I came in late to Austin Peay.  I missed the spring for seniors, and people just didn’t know who I was.  Special Teams University helped me get into the College Gridiron Showcase.  I snapped phenomenally.

Alex Khvatov:  What type of feedback did you receive from scouts?

Kyle Romano:  Everyone was stunned about my weigh-in.  Raiders showed interest.  I didn’t stay at the hotel like the rest of the guys.  I stayed at home.  I didn’t get those one on one interviews.  The Packers asked a couple of other guys about me.

Alex Khvatov:  What do you enjoy most about football?

Kyle Romano:  It is great when I can make a hit.  Against UCF, I made an amazing tackle.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your hobbies?

Kyle Romano:  I play video games.  I am a big family person.  I live at home.  I spend a lot of time training right now.

Alex Khvatov:  What do you want to do with your life after your football career is over?

Kyle Romano:  The Dallas area is growing right now.  I want to get into the construction side of it.  I would love to flip houses and build.

Alex Khvatov:  Finish the sentence, Kyle Romano is….

Kyle Romano:  A person you won’t forget.
