Justin Watson
Wide Receiver – Senior
Penn
Alex Khvatov: Tell me about this Senior Bowl experience.
Justin Watson: It’s truly an honor to be here. It’s been a lot of fun. I was at the East/West Shrine game last week. I was excited when I got the call to come here. You are going against the best of the best. I know that I have said in the past I can go against the best guys. It was finally time to prove it. I was able to do it this week.
Alex Khvatov: Who was the toughest CB that you have faced out here in Mobile?
Justin Watson: There are a couple of good guys. The kid from Penn State (Christian Campbell) is very rangy and the kid from Florida (Duke Dawson) is very quick.
Alex Khvatov: What is the main difference between the Senior Bowl and the Shrine Game?
Justin Watson: Everything is just turned up a notch. The level of competition is turned up. There are a lot of scouts and GM’s. A lot of people are watching. The intensity of practice is at another level. Everyone is flying around and competing. It was cool that I got a chance to test the waters last week and then come out against some of the bigger cats this week.
Alex Khvatov: Has it helped you this week by being at the Shrine Game last week?
Justin Watson: It helps that I was able to shake some rust off against corners last week. I played in the game last Saturday. The soreness went away, and I was back at full speed here on Tuesday.
Alex Khvatov: How did you wind up at Penn?
Justin Watson: I had about 15 offers coming out. The biggest was in the MAC conference. I didn’t feel that MAC football traded off with the Ivy League football and education. I knew that I could win championships at Penn.
Alex Khvatov: What was the highlight for you at Penn?
Justin Watson: The first championship we won my sophomore year. We were 2-8 my freshman year. We won the Ivy League Championship with a brand new coach.
Alex Khvatov: What are your strengths on the field?
Justin Watson: Using my size well. I am strong and physical at the catch point.
Alex Khvatov: What areas of your game are you trying to improve upon?
Justin Watson: Making the first 10 yards in my route look identical whether it is a dig or an out route.
