Jonathan Wynn
Defensive End – Senior
Vanderbilt
Alex Khvatov: What are your measurements (height, weight and forty time)?
Jonathan Wynn: My height is 6’4, 256 and 4.72 at the pro day.
Alex Khvatov: Where are you currently training for the NFL Draft?
Jonathan Wynn: I am training at Vanderbilt University. I knew that the coaches here would help me develop even more.
Alex Khvatov: How would you describe your Pro Day performance?
Jonathan Wynn: The day was exciting. I couldn’t believe that I was actually doing it. I saw pro days and combine growing up. I came in trying to write goals down before the pro day. I felt like I did good. During pro day, I kept pushing. I gave it my all. I felt fast and lean. I did drills at both LB and DE back-to-back. I was in a zone. I wanted to go hard with a full head of steam. I exceeded my expectations on that day. My broad jump was a 9’6 and I jumped 32 inches on the vert. I did some weeks at OLB during training. I was comprehensive at both. I had to have a little awareness about it because I haven’t played LB since my redshirt freshman year. I feel like I didn’t do too badly. I was opening up my hips during the LB drills.
Alex Khvatov: Coming out of high school, what programs showed interest in you?
Jonathan Wynn: I grew up in Georgia. I went to Stephenson High School in Georgia. I didn’t start getting noticed until my junior year. It was my first year starting. I wanted to open up recruiting. Vanderbilt was offering. My family knew that Vanderbilt was big in academics and it was an SEC school. They were in a great city. I committed early to them in the latter part of my junior year. I closed the doors for other schools. It would have been more schools that would have offered me. I had FIU, Pittsburgh, South Carolina and Vanderbilt.
Alex Khvatov: Why did you choose Vanderbilt?
Jonathan Wynn: The academics definitely played a big role. The city of Nashville is a good city to grow in as a college student. I also had the chance to play at an SEC school.
Alex Khvatov: Tell us about your overall career.
Jonathan Wynn: I was recruited as a 4-3 DE. I redshirted my first year. I got a taste of SEC during my redshirt year. They moved me to OLB at first and then I became a 3-4 DE. I didn’t know how I would do there. I did well and contributed to the team as a redshirt sophomore. I played with great dudes on the DL. It was more of a learning experience. I got more used at that position during my junior year. It became easier. The game slowed down. I knew the tendencies and got deeper into film. I became more of a student of the game. I contributed with different packages. I felt good. It helped me transition into next year as a fifth year senior. I became more of a leader my senior season. I was helping the younger guys. I was a reliable player for the DL group and the team. I ended my college career on a high note.
Alex Khvatov: What are your strengths?
Jonathan Wynn: I bring effort. I have a good motor. I am relentless. I have great hands. I bring attention to detail and competitiveness. I am coachable. I work on technique and try to perfect it. I will do my role exceptionally well.
Alex Khvatov: What areas of your game are you trying to improve upon?
Jonathan Wynn: I want to improve in the pass rush department. Playing the run has been natural for me. I wasn’t always the best at trying to get to the QB. I got better at it during training.
Alex Khvatov: What is the highlight of your career up to this point?
Jonathan Wynn: The year we went to the bowl game. I felt moved. We were doing something special despite the circumstances. We felt that we were going to be fine in the bowl game. It made me close to the team. I was pushing it to the limit. I was doing something for Vanderbilt and for Coach Mason. Although we lost the bowl game against NC State, it was a memorable season.
Alex Khvatov: What is your favorite NFL team?
Jonathan Wynn: Growing up, I was a Falcons fan. Being from Atlanta, I always rooted for them.
Alex Khvatov: Who is your favorite NFL player?
Jonathan Wynn: For me, I was into college football. I watched the NFL sometimes, but I never paid attention closely.
Alex Khvatov: What is the most important trait for a DL?
Jonathan Wynn: The important traits are power and violence in your get off. You are attacking the line. You don’t want to come off timid. You have to strike somebody and do the dirty job.
Alex Khvatov: What players on your team should we keep an eye on for next season?
Jonathan Wynn: Look out for DL Dayo Odeyingbo. Safety LaDarius Wiley will definitely be on the list. RB Khari Blasingame is a dude that can take on more responsibility. I think he can take over for Ralph Webb. LB Jordan Griffin is a tackling machine.
Alex Khvatov: What was the toughest team that you played against in the SEC?
Jonathan Wynn: It was Alabama this past season. It was our first time playing them in a long time. It was tough to go against them. They are good. They had a lot of depth.
Alex Khvatov: What do you enjoy most about football?
Jonathan Wynn: For me, it is a way to get away from all of the things that are happening in life. It is a way to get aggression out. You build camaraderie. I have found brothers for life through this game. It makes you work hard for the game and the team. Football molded me into a man.
Alex Khvatov: What are your hobbies?
Jonathan Wynn: I like to hang out with the boys. I visit a different restaurant every week. I like to read here and there in order to gain more knowledge. I like to travel and watch movies.
Alex Khvatov: What do you want to do with your life after your football career is over?
Jonathan Wynn: I can go to grad school. I am looking into PhD. It would probably be related to education, sports or history. I also want to do something with writing.
Alex Khvatov: Finish the sentence, Jonathan Wynn is….
Jonathan Wynn: A person of humility. I am someone who is willing to learn and experience something different than the typical person. I live life. I am a leader and I am not afraid to be different.
