Jaquil Capel Interview - NFL Draft Blitz

Jaquil Capel Interview

Jaquil Capel

Wide Receiver – Senior

North Carolina A&T

Alex Khvatov:  What are your measurements (height, weight and forty time)?

Jaquil Capel:  Height is 5’11, weight is 190 and a 4.4.  I have been running it consistently during training.

Alex Khvatov:  Where are you currently training for the NFL Draft?

Jaquil Capel:  I am training at Forever Fit with Bradley in Greer, South Carolina.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your expectations for the Pro Day?

Jaquil Capel:  My pro day is on Monday, April 2nd.  I want to get consistent numbers.  I am hoping to run a 4.2 in the shuttle or better.  Vert should be about 32 and broad is about 9’10.  But I don’t want to get ahead of myself.  I have high expectations.  I am hoping that Brandon Parker brings a lot of people.  We already had a lot of scouts come through our school this year.

Alex Khvatov:  Coming out of high school, what programs showed interest in you?

Jaquil Capel:  At first, I committed to North Carolina.  I also had interest from Clemson and Georgia Tech.  Then Coach Fedora took over at UNC.  He took two other receivers in front of me.

Alex Khvatov:  Why did you choose UNC Charlotte?

Jaquil Capel:  I went to Charlotte.  I knew some guys there.  I didn’t like it.  I didn’t fit in.  It wasn’t the right place for me.

Alex Khvatov:  Why did you choose Appalachian State?

Jaquil Capel:  I committed there at first.  I knew the guys and the coaches.  It was a better place for me to go.  I didn’t consider other schools.

Alex Khvatov:  Tell us about your career at Appalachian State.

Jaquil Capel:  I transferred.  I had to sit out the year.  I was mentally prepared for it.  The second year, I tore my groin and I never played a down after that.  I was back my junior year.  I was second string.  The third game, I got the start.  I broke my leg during the junior season.  My senior year started out good.  I had three catches against Tennessee.  I had my best game against Old Dominion.  I had six catches for 80 yards.  I had one catch against Miami and I tweaked the groin right before halftime.  I missed a game after that.  I came back against Georgia State.  I had a good game.  I got back in the flow of things.  I was doing good on punt returns.  I thought that I would do the pro day, but I was trying to get my medical year back.  They told me that I would get my year back.  It was already late.  They started the semester.  They gave away the money.  I already graduated, and they told me that I could have leave if I wanted to.  So I started looking at other schools.

Alex Khvatov:  Describe your final season at North Carolina A&T.

Jaquil Capel:  I went on a recruiting trail again.  I didn’t want to go to D-I.  I wanted to be an impact player.  I went to NC A&T.  They recruited me in high school.  I knew the coaching staff.  They lost three games the year before.  I knew that I could help them.  I had a good season.  I averaged over 25 yards a catch.  I had 25 or 26 catches.  I didn’t do punt returns.  We split kick returns with another player.  We went undefeated and won the championship my senior year.  It was a great ending.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your strengths?

Jaquil Capel:  Speed.  I am faster than most players.  My playmaking ability after I get the ball in my hands.  I can make people miss.  I am football savvy.  I know schemes.  My competitive nature.

Alex Khvatov:  What areas of your game are you trying to improve upon?

Jaquil Capel:  My route running.  I played QB in high school.  When I got to college, I switched to WR.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the highlight of your career up to this point?

Jaquil Capel:  My senior year by far.  I got my year back.  I got to A&T in July or August.  I had to learn the whole offense in two months.  I was also a second string QB for a couple of weeks.  They put me at wildcat sometimes early on.  I was also a returner.  It was kind of a movie.  It was an amazing year.

Alex Khvatov:  What is your favorite NFL team?

Jaquil Capel:  Panthers.

Alex Khvatov:  Who is your favorite NFL player?

Jaquil Capel:  Cam Newton is my favorite player.  I like Antonio Brown at WR.  He is feisty.  He was a sixth round pick.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the most important trait for a WR?

Jaquil Capel:  Route running.  You have to get open.  Antonio Brown is not the fastest guy, but he can get open.

Alex Khvatov:  What players on your team should we keep an eye on for next season?

Jaquil Capel:  QB Lamar Raynard and #13 WR Elijah Bell.  #88 Malik Wilson is really good.  #22 RB Marquell Cartwright was the MVP of the national championship game.

Alex Khvatov:  Who is the best player that you have faced during your career?

Jaquil Capel:  QB Deshaun Watson from Clemson.  We played against him when I was at App State.

Alex Khvatov:  What do you enjoy most about football?

Jaquil Capel:  The grind of it.  You want to get it right.  A lot of people quit because life is not always fair.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your hobbies?

Jaquil Capel:  Madden and fishing.

Alex Khvatov:  What do you want to do with your life after your football career is over?

Jaquil Capel:  Coaching.  I love being around the game.

Alex Khvatov:  Finish the sentence, Jaquil Capel is….

Jaquil Capel:  A smart individual.  I am an athletic, determined and hard working guy.  I persevered through the tough times.  I am a good individual.
