BEST DAY 3 PICKS
104th Overall Pick, 4thRound
RB Nyheim Hines (NC State) – Indianapolis Colts
He is a jack of all trades. Hines is a change-of-pace back with homerun ability. He is a RB with great hands and return skills. He has outstanding speed. He can line up in the backfield or in the slot. He is also a good route runner.
106th Overall Pick, 4th Round
LB Josey Jewell (Iowa) – Denver Broncos
He will play ILB in a 3-4 defense. That is his best fit at the next level. He didn’t test well, but Jewell has been a starting LB for the last three years. He is a team captain with outstanding instincts. He is a tough LB that takes great angles to the ball and shows a very good closing burst. He is a sure tackler and has a nonstop motor. He is better in pass coverage than he is given credit for.
113th Overall Pick, 4th Round
WR DaeSean Hamilton (Penn State) – Denver Broncos
Here is another player that the Broncos selected. Denver has done a great job in this draft. Hamilton is a bigger slot receiver who shows a knack for getting open. He is one of the best route runners in this draft class. He makes tough catches in traffic and has reliable hands.
153th Overall Pick, 5th Round
OT/OG Tyrell Crosby (Oregon) – Detroit Lions
He should have been selected much higher than this. Crosby is a great run blocker. He shows terrific upper body strength. He sustains his blocks well. He is a nasty OL who finishes his blocks. He does struggle against quicker DL at times. He is a RT or a guard at the next level.
171st Overall Pick, 5th Round
QB Mike White (Western Kentucky) – Dallas Cowboys
This is a day three QB that I am excited about. White has good size and a very strong arm. He has started 42 games during his career. He shows nice touch on downfield throws. His ball placement is good. He displays above average field vision and will work through those progressions. He does need to improve his pocket awareness.
177th Overall Pick, 6th Round
DE Duke Ejiofor (Wake Forest) – Houston Texans
I had him ranked in the top 100. He would have gone higher if it wasn’t for the injury. He has extremely long arms and can disengage from blockers quickly. Ejiofor displays active hands. He shows a variety of pass rush moves. He has a spin move, a rip move and a swim move in his arsenal and he keeps OL off balance. He is also a reliable tackler.
179th Overall Pick, 6th Round
CB Parry Nickerson (Tulane) – New York Jets
Nickerson is a good athlete with outstanding speed. He is an instinctive corner with very good ball skills. He is undersized, but he is a tough corner. He is also good in run support. He is one of the better nickel corners in this draft.
190th Overall Pick, 6th Round
S DeShon Elliott (Texas) – Baltimore Ravens
Elliott is a physical safety with very good size. He was a one-year starter, but he has potential. He is a good athlete and he should excel as a SS at the next level. He is a very good tackler and a capable blitzer. I like his ball skills.
208th Overall Pick, 6th Round
WR Cedrick Wilson (Boise State) – Dallas Cowboys
This is a great value pick in the sixth round. I like him more than Michael Gallup who was drafted by the Cowboys in the third round. He has a knack for creating separation. Wilson is a precise route runner with reliable hands. He is pretty elusive and gains yards after the catch. His father was selected in the same round as him. He will help as a returner as well. He has upside. He has a chance to become a good No.2/slot WR at the next level.
256th Overall Pick, 7th Round
WR Trey Quinn (SMU) – Washington Redskins
Mr. Irrelevant transferred from LSU and had an outstanding junior year at SMU (106 catches for 1,191 yards and 12 TD’s). I love this selection at the end of the draft. He is a slot WR with very good hands. He is a smooth route runner. He is more quick than fast. He will move the chains for the Redskins on third down.
