Vince Char – Defensive Tackle – Widener University

Alex Khvatov:  What are your measurements?

Vince Char:  I am 6’3” and 300lbs.  My best 225 bench is 33 reps so far.

Alex Khvatov:  Where will you be training for the NFL Draft?

Vince Char:  At the moment, I am training six days a week for three hours a day.  I am currently still completing my search for where I would like to train for my pro day.

Alex Khvatov:  Describe your overall experience at the FCS Bowl all-star game in Daytona Beach, FL.

Vince Char:  My overall experience was great.  All of the players were supportive of each other, and the coaches were very knowledgeable.  They wanted to see everyone succeed.  The event was organized very well and tons of fun.  The energy at practice, and the game was great.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the biggest thing that you will take away from that weekend?

Vince Char:  The biggest thing that I will take away from that weekend is that I can compete with anyone at any level.  The big concern about D-III players is level of competition, and I proved that I could produce against any level of talent.  I stood out in the 1 on 1’s, at practice and the game itself.

Alex Khvatov:  Who was the best player that you have faced at the FCS Bowl?

Vince Char:  The best player I faced in the FCS Bowl was Vincent Espinoza, who ended up winning the game’s MVP.

Alex Khvatov:  Coming out of high school, what programs showed interest in you?

Vince Char:  I was mainly recruited by Division III schools.

Alex Khvatov:  Why did you choose Widener University?

Vince Char:  I chose Widener because of the history of success the defensive line has had.  The defensive line at Widener has been dominant for years with All-Americans almost every year.  I wanted to be a part of this tradition and add to its accomplishments.

Alex Khvatov:  What are you strengths?

Vince Char:  My strengths are my power and explosiveness.  My explosiveness allows me to have a great get off.  Also my overall athleticism and agility gives me an advantage over the competition.  You pair these qualities with my great technique and I’m hard to stop.

Alex Khvatov:  What areas of your game are you trying to improve upon?

Vince Char:  I am improving my hands.  My hand usage is good, but I would like to clean up the details to perfect my pass rush moves.

Alex Khvatov:  Describe you overall career to us.

Vince Char:  I have been dominant in my career.  I am an All-American as well as pre-season All-American.  I hold a school record for sacks in a single season with 14.5.  I set an NCAA season high for sacks in a single game with six.  I have been dominant as a pass rusher as well as a run stopper.  I am a player that you must game plan for every week.

Alex Khvatov:  What is your biggest accomplishment that you are most proud of?

Vince Char:  The accomplishment that I am most proud of is being named an All-American, as well as fighting through the adversity of playing my senior season on a broken leg.

Alex Khvatov:  What have you learned the most from your coaching staff?

Vince Char:  I learned the most from my defensive line coach Jason Henshaw.  He taught me how to become the player I am.  He taught me everything I know about defensive line play as well as how to be a great team leader.

Alex Khvatov:  What is your favorite NFL team?

Vince Char:  My favorite NFL team is the Philadelphia Eagles.

Alex Khvatov:  Who is your favorite NFL player?

Vince Char:  My favorite NFL player is Aaron Donald.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the most important trait for a DL?

Vince Char:  The most important trait is to be violent.  You have to have a different mindset when you play defensive line.  You have to impose your will on the man in front of you every play.

Alex Khvatov:  Before the ball is snapped, what are the tendencies that you are looking for from the offense?

Vince Char:  I look at the offensive lineman in front of me in his stance.  I look for where his weight is leaning because it could tell me whether it is pass or run, as well as which direction the run is going.  Some offensive linemen give away when they are going to pull by their stance.  I also look at the offensive formation because tendencies give me an idea of what play it is.

Alex Khvatov:  What players on your team should we keep an eye on for next season?

Vince Char:  Donte’ Harrell is a great running back that you should keep an eye on next season.  Mike Pawlowski and Mario Scotese aren’t seniors next year, but will be players to look at in a few years.

Alex Khvatov:  Who is the toughest player that you have faced on an opposing team?

Vince Char:  Brady Williams is a great player.

Alex Khvatov:  What do you enjoy most about football?

Vince Char:  I love the thrill when you make plays.  It is a great feeling when you make a great play, and everybody gets hyped.  I also enjoy being around my teammates as we go through the highs and lows of a season together.

Alex Khvatov:  Who is your biggest role model and why?

Vince Char:  My only two role models are my Father Vince C. Char and my defensive line coach Jason Henshaw.  Both of these men have showed me what it takes to be a man.  They have both worked and grinded for everything in their lives and instilled this kind of hard work mentality in me.  They support me throughout everything and I try every day to emulate their qualities as people.

Alex Khvatov:  What is your definition of a leader?

Vince Char:  A leader is someone who puts the goals of the group in front of his own.  A leader is someone who shows the group how to succeed and can get the group to follow in their footsteps.  A leader is someone who keeps the group focused on the overall goals of the team.  A leader is someone who the group can trust to guide them as well as represent them as their leading voice.

Alex Khvatov:  What are you hobbies?

Vince Char:  My hobbies besides football include hanging out with friends and playing Fortnite.

Alex Khvatov:  What do you want to do with your life after your football career is over?

Vince Char:  I will put my master’s degree in engineering to use and pursue something in that field, but I would also like to coach football.
