Josiah Maglente-Tonu:  The overall experience of the FCS all-star game in Daytona Beach, Florida was amazing especially coming from a small school.  It was very fun to go against different competition.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the biggest thing that you will take away from that weekend?

Josiah Maglente-Tonu:  The biggest thing I would take from that weekend was the experience and also playing with top talent from around the country.

Alex Khvatov:  Who was the best player that you have faced at the FCS Bowl?

Josiah Maglente-Tonu:  I would say for me they all were good, but by saying that it only made me better.  It made me rise to a new level.

Alex Khvatov:  Coming out of high school, what programs showed interest in

you?

Josiah Maglente-Tonu:  Coming out of high school, I really had no interest.  I was talking with Joe Salave’a when he was at Washington State.

Alex Khvatov:  Why did you choose to go to JUCO?

Josiah Maglente-Tonu:  I chose to go to Juco because they gave me an opportunity to further my education and play the game that I love.

Alex Khvatov:  Why did you decide to transfer to Southern Oregon?

Josiah Maglente-Tonu:  I decided to transfer to Southern Oregon because the family like atmosphere and also I was able to put my hand in the dirt and play DE.

Alex Khvatov:  How difficult was it to make the transition from the DL to

OL your senior year of college?

Josiah Maglente-Tonu:  I wouldn’t say difficult, but it was a challenge.  I took that challenge and ran with it.  I have learned so much.  But I know the road doesn’t end here, I want to be able to learn more and become an all-time great.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your strengths?

Josiah Maglente-Tonu:  My strengths are being athletic, able to run out in space and being able to play anywhere.

Alex Khvatov:  What areas of your game are you trying to improve upon?

Josiah Maglente-Tonu:  The areas of my game that I’m trying to improve on are staying balanced in my pass sets and also being patient.

Alex Khvatov:  Describe your overall career to us.

Alex Khvatov:  Before the ball is snapped, what are the tendencies that

you are looking for from the defense?

Josiah Maglente-Tonu:  Before the ball is snapped, I look at where the safeties are first.  Then the linebackers, whether they are over or under.  Then I focus on the man that I am blocking or who is in my zone and look at the stance and tilt of the player.

Alex Khvatov:  What players on your team should we keep an eye on for next

season?

Josiah Maglente-Tonu:  Parker Randle, Austin May and Ben Robbins.

opposing team?

Alex Khvatov:  What do you enjoy most about football?

Josiah Maglente-Tonu:  I enjoy all the game planning and all the film watching and even practice.  It’s crazy to think, but we put in all the work throughout the week to play a three-hour game on Saturday.  That’s what I love about football.

Alex Khvatov:  Who is your biggest role model and why?

Josiah Maglente-Tonu:  I would say my biggest role model is my whole family because they have been through a lot, but always find a way to make it work.

Alex Khvatov:  What is your definition of a leader?

Josiah Maglente-Tonu:  My definition of a leader is not leading on whoever has the loudest voice or whoever takes advantage of having that title of a leader, but being able to lead by example and always doing the right thing.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your hobbies?

Josiah Maglente-Tonu:  If I’m not lifting or working on O-line techniques, then I’m surfing, hunting or fishing.

Alex Khvatov:  What do you want to do with your life after your football

career is over?
