CB Connor Calvert (Carthage College) Interview - NFL Draft Blitz

CB Connor Calvert (Carthage College) Interview

Connor Calvert – Cornerback – Carthage College

Alex Khvatov:  What are your measurements (height, weight and forty time)?

Connor Calvert:  Height: 5’10, weight: 180 and 40 time: 4.59.

Alex Khvatov:  Where will you be training for the NFL Draft?

Connor Calvert:  In the Chicago area with my personal trainer.

Alex Khvatov:  Describe your overall experience at the National Bowl all-star game in Daytona Beach, FL.

Connor Calvert:  My experience at the National Bowl was great, and it is something I will never forget.  Coming from a D-III school, you don’t always get that kind of exposure to perform in front of scouts.  It was fun going against the top competition.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the biggest thing that you will take away from that

weekend?

Connor Calvert:  The biggest thing I will take away from that weekend is that you have to take advantage of every opportunity you get, no matter how small it is.

Alex Khvatov:  Who was the best player that you have faced at the National

Bowl?

Connor Calvert:  I don’t know everyone’s name, but there was a lot of good competition going on all weekend.

Alex Khvatov:  Coming out of high school, what programs showed interest in

you?

Connor Calvert:  UW-Plateville, Ohio Northern and Adrian.

Alex Khvatov:  How did you wind up at Carthage college?

Connor Calvert:  I went on an overnight visit and out of all the other schools I went to, I knew this was the right one.  Everybody showed me so much love and that’s why I ended up going there.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your strengths?

Connor Calvert:  One of my biggest strengths is the mental aspect of the game.  Everyone has the physical talents, but being smarter than my opponent is what separates me.  A couple of other strengths are my ball skills and quickness in and out of breaks.

Alex Khvatov:  What areas of your game are you trying to improve upon?

Connor Calvert:  I’m trying to be more efficient so that comes with working on my technique and just trying to get rid of wasted movement.

Alex Khvatov:  Describe your overall career.

Connor Calvert:  My overall career was a pretty good one even though I feel that I haven’t even come close to my full potential.  I’ve started since I was a freshman and this year, I became only the fifth player in the history of my school to be a 4x all-conference player.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the highlight of your career up to this point?

Connor Calvert:  Being selected on the All-Region team my junior year.

Alex Khvatov:  What have you learned the most from your coaching staff?

Connor Calvert:  I learned how to trust people.  Without trust in your teammates and coaches, nothing great will ever get accomplished.

Alex Khvatov:  What is your favorite NFL team?

Connor Calvert:  Houston Texans.

Alex Khvatov:  Who is your favorite NFL player?

Connor Calvert:  Jalen Ramsey.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the most important trait for a CB?

Connor Calvert:  Technique is the most important trait.  Without technique at this position you can’t be great.  One bad step is usually the difference between them catching the ball and not catching it.

Alex Khvatov:  Before the ball is snapped, what are the tendencies that you are looking for from the offense?

Connor Calvert:  The first thing I’m looking at is what formation they are in.  The second thing I do as a corner is see how the WR is lined up.  What I’m looking for, is he on top of the numbers or below the numbers, which foot he has up because all those things help me get an idea of what he is going to do before the ball is even snapped.

Alex Khvatov:  What players on your team should we keep an eye on for next

season?

Connor Calvert:  Amani Dennis and Bret Patton.

Alex Khvatov:  Who is the best player that you have faced on an opposing team?

Connor Calvert:  Broc Rutter.

Alex Khvatov:  What do you enjoy most about football?

Connor Calvert:  I enjoy how football brings people together.  Football tests people, how they respond in tough situations and when you go through all the struggles you eventually become like brothers to your teammates.

Alex Khvatov:  Who is your biggest role model and why?

Connor Calvert:  My biggest role model is my sister who is a doctor.  I have never seen someone work so hard for what they want.  To be able to see her accomplish her goal with hard work just motivates me every day.

Alex Khvatov:  What is your definition of a leader?

Connor Calvert:  My definition of a leader is someone who leads by example.  Not only do they try to make themselves better, but they bring people along with them.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your hobbies?

Connor Calvert:  Hang out with friends and family, play Madden and pick games of basketball.

Alex Khvatov:  What do you want to do with your life after your football career is over?

Connor Calvert:  Become a personal trainer or coach at the college level.

Alex Khvatov:  What five words best describe you?

Connor Calvert:  Smart, confident, reliable, friendly and respectful.

Alex Khvatov:  Who will win the National Championship in CFB this year?

Connor Calvert:  Alabama, no doubt.

Alex Khvatov:  Who will win Super Bowl LIII in February?

Connor Calvert:  New Orleans Saints.
