Alex Khvatov: What are your measurements (height, weight and forty time)?
Durrant Miles: 6’4 ½, 265 and the D-linemen didn’t run the forty-yard dashes at Boise State.
Alex Khvatov: Where will you be training for the NFL Draft?
Durrant Miles: I am training down at Exos in Phoenix, Arizona.
Alex Khvatov: How would you describe your experience at the College Gridiron Showcase?
Durrant Miles: It’s really been awesome in the short period of time that I have been here. They have done a good job with seminars. The people are great. I am excited to go to practice.
Alex Khvatov: Coming out of high school, what programs showed interest in
you?
Durrant Miles: I grew up in Utah. Utah, Utah State, Wyoming and Hawaii showed interest. Boise State was also interested.
Alex Khvatov: Why did you choose Boise State?
Durrant Miles: I did a summer camp with them when coach Petersen was there. I fell in love with Boise. I went on a two-year mission. I served it in Bolivia. Coach Petersen left to Washington and he offered me. I never visited the campus. I didn’t know much about Washington. I loved the environment at Boise. I stuck with the commitment.
Alex Khvatov: Tell us about your mission to Bolivia.
Durrant Miles: It was very far from home. It was a very eye-opening experience. The living conditions and the poverty over there. It was good to have once focus. We wanted to bring them closer to Christ. I learned Spanish. I will always cherish those moments.
Alex Khvatov: What are your strengths?
Durrant Miles: Leadership and dedication. I take pride in everything that I do. I bring the right mentality on game day. My teammates and coaching staff noticed that and presented me with the Lyle Smith Award. It is a distinguished service award for buying into the program for my leadership qualities. Lyle Smith was one of the coaches at Boise State in the beginning when they won a junior college championship. He is the forefather at Boise State. They have a statue of him. I was honored to receive that award.
Alex Khvatov: What areas of your game are you trying to improve upon?
Durrant Miles: Improve upon my explosiveness. As a DE, you have to get after the QB and bend an edge. You have to come off the ball hard and fast. I will continue to work on it.
Alex Khvatov: Describe your overall career.
Durrant Miles: Freshman year, I was a scrawny little kid. I dropped about 30 pounds on my mission. I was 205 pounds when I came back and gained 10 pounds before getting to Boise. I was 215 pounds my freshman year and I wanted to play. I didn’t want to redshirt. I spoke with the coaches and told them I want to contribute in any way possible. I played a role on special teams. I also got some defensive snaps as a backup in blowout wins. I played against Virginia and my first tackle was a TFL. We had a good team that year. Our defense took care of business. During my sophomore year, I was rotating with Jabril Frazier. He went down with an injury, and I started for eight or nine games that season. But we lost to Baylor in the Cactus Bowl to Baylor. I played OLB my sophomore year. Before my junior year, I put on more weight, and they moved me to DE my junior year. I played DE the last two seasons.
Alex Khvatov: What is the highlight of your career up to this point?
Durrant Miles: My junior year, we were able to finish the season the right way. We won the MWC Championship and we beat Oregon in the Las Vegas Bowl.
Alex Khvatov: What is your biggest accomplishment in college that you are most proud of?
Durrant Miles: Marrying my high school sweetheart about a year and a half ago. Her name is Karra. She is everything to me.
Alex Khvatov: What have you learned the most from your coaching staff?
Durrant Miles: They stressed daily discipline and dedication. You have to put in the hard work.
Alex Khvatov: How would you describe your teammate QB Brett Rypien?
Durrant Miles: He is awesome. He does a great job on the field. He is set passing records. Off the field, he is a humble guy. He does a great job mingling. He has awesome character. We are great friends. I love that kid to death.
Alex Khvatov: What is your favorite NFL team?
Durrant Miles: I follow the Cowboys. It is my wife’s favorite team. Plus they have a lot of the Boise State players on the team: Tyrone Crawford, DeMarcus Lawrence, Darian Thompson, Leighton Vander Esch and Cedrick Wilson.
Alex Khvatov: Who is your favorite NFL player?
Durrant Miles: Khalil Mack. He is incredible at what he does.
Alex Khvatov: What is the most important trait for a DL?
Durrant Miles: Having a motor, the tenacity and being nasty. You have to be able to have that motor and get off blocks.
Alex Khvatov: What players on your team should we keep an eye on next season?
Durrant Miles: Two of my buddies are very good. Kekoa Nawahine was a boundary safety for us. Kekaula Kaniho is a nickel back. He is a hybrid guy.
Alex Khvatov: Who is the best player that you have faced on an opposing team?
Durrant Miles: QB Josh Allen from Wyoming. We played him my junior year. He does a great job. He is physical, smart, athletic and talented.
Alex Khvatov: What do you enjoy most about football?
Durrant Miles: It was my childhood dream to make it in the NFL. My favorite part of football are friendships that are made, camaraderie and making plays.
Alex Khvatov: Who is your biggest role model?
Durrant Miles: My wife. She is a great example for me. She is perfect for me.
Alex Khvatov: What is your definition of a leader?
Durrant Miles: Someone who cares. Someone who is dedicated and sets an example. Someone who is not afraid to speak up when the situation might not be ideal. A leader takes control.
Alex Khvatov: What are your hobbies?
Durrant Miles: I am a big wild hunter. I also love to grill.
Alex Khvatov: What do you want to do with your life after your football
career is over?
Durrant Miles: I want to be a doctor. I was a health science major. I want to practice medicine.
Alex Khvatov: What five words best describe you?
Durrant Miles: Selfless, dedicated, fun-loving, hardworking and caring.
Alex Khvatov: Who will win Super Bowl LIII in February?
Durrant Miles: I got to go with Leighton Vander Esch. He is my boy. He promised fans on draft day that he was coming to win the Super Bowl.
