RB Brycen Alleyne (Delaware State) Interview

Brycen Alleyne
Running Back
Delaware State

Alex Khvatov:  What are your measurements (height, weight and forty time)?

Brycen Alleyne:  5’6, 165lbs, 4.4 forty.

Alex Khvatov:  Where will you be training for the NFL Draft?

Brycen Alleyne:  At Delaware State University, Stay Real Football Training and Alpha Training.

Alex Khvatov:  Describe your overall experience at the FCS Bowl all-star game in Daytona Beach, FL.

Brycen Alleyne:  I had a great experience in Daytona Beach at the FCS Bowl.  I was down there with two of my teammates which made me a lot more comfortable just because I already knew them.  Seeing the wide range of talent from across the country from schools I have never heard of was exciting.  As well as putting my university and program out there for all to see.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the biggest thing that you will take away from that weekend?

Brycen Alleyne:  The biggest thing that I will take away from that weekend would be to stay relevant.  That was the one thing that was said a lot.  In order to increase your chances of development and moving up levels is your relevancy.

Alex Khvatov:  Who was the best player that you have faced at the FCS Bowl?

Brycen Alleyne:  The best player that I faced at the FCS Bowl was a linebacker from North Alabama.  Both him and I were getting after it in the one-on-one sessions during practices.

Alex Khvatov:  Coming out of high school, what programs showed interest in you?

Brycen Alleyne:  The only programs that showed interest in me were a lot of high academic Division III schools.  Wesley College (D-III) and Gannon University (D-II) offered me a scholarship a month before signing day.  Delaware State offered me two days before signing day.

Alex Khvatov:  Why did you choose Delaware State?

Brycen Alleyne:  I chose Delaware State because I instantly connected with the new head coach at the time, Kenny Carter, where I was told plans for my future at Delaware State and how I was going to be used.  Also, I have a few uncles that entered the NFL out of Delaware State, so family history was a factor.  Most importantly, I was sold on helping change the culture of a program and help lead the team at an early age while playing at the Division I level.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your strengths?

Brycen Alleyne:  I believe my strengths are that I am not one dimensional.  I am not just a running back.  I can play both the slot and be an asset to the return game as well.  Another strength is that I am a leader on and off the field and I can get guys to be motivated to compete at a different level.

Alex Khvatov:  What areas of your game are you trying to improve upon?

Brycen Alleyne:  The areas of the game I am trying to improve on is reading fronts of the defense.  And being able to anticipate openings in the run game and knowing how to attack them.

Alex Khvatov:  Describe your overall career.

Brycen Alleyne:  I believe my overall career was filled with trials and tribulations& at the end, I was able to come out on top being a two-time captain, the #3 all-purpose yards leader in school history, #2 all-time kick return yards leader in school history & #11 rushing yards leader in school history.  I was also selected third team all-conference running back this year.  All while battling coaching changes, injuries & ups and downs with wins and losses within the program.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the highlight of your career up to this point?

Brycen Alleyne:  I believe the highlight of my career to this point is finally getting a homecoming win after my four years with the program and then following it up with back to back wins the first time since 2013.  It felt good to be a part of that accomplishment.

Alex Khvatov:  What is your biggest accomplishment in college that you are most proud of?

Brycen Alleyne:  My biggest accomplishment in college that I am most proud of is after four tough years being able to say that I am one of the top players to ever come out of Delaware State, now that I am in the record books.

Alex Khvatov:  What have you learned the most from your coaching staff?

Brycen Alleyne:  What I have learned the most from this coaching staff is that I have to take it one day, one practice and one game at a time.  In order for you to be successful, you have to win the day that is right in front of you.  You cannot be concerned with what happened the day before nor what will you be faced with the day after.  Only what you can control today to help you win the day.

Alex Khvatov:  What is your favorite NFL team?

Brycen Alleyne:  Philadelphia Eagles.

Alex Khvatov:  Who is your favorite NFL player?

Brycen Alleyne:  Between Alvin Kamara & Dalvin Cook due to their durability and effectiveness in the passing game and aggressiveness in the run game.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the most important trait for a RB?

Brycen Alleyne:  Most important trait of a running back is durability & dependability.  How many hits can you take and get back up and do it over and over again.  And can you make that blocking assignment, get those tough yards on 3rd down and be a factor in the passing game.

Alex Khvatov:  Before the ball is snapped, what are the tendencies that you are looking for from the defense?

Brycen Alleyne:  First thing I look for in the film is if players can tackle.  Who will I really have to make miss in space.  Prior to the snap, I look at how aggressive are the LBs, are they giving a tell that’s telling me they are coming in hot or going to read and hesitate first.

Alex Khvatov:  What players on your team should we keep an eye on for next season?

Brycen Alleyne:  LB Brian Cavicante, Safeties Jahad Neibauer & Devin Smith and OL Kaiden Crawford.

Alex Khvatov:  Who is the best player that you have faced on an opposing team?

Brycen Alleyne:  Linebacker #34 for South Carolina State who graduated in 2017.

Alex Khvatov:  What do you enjoy most about football?

Brycen Alleyne:  The camaraderie within the locker room, the excitement of big plays and overcoming ups and downs that happen within the game/season.

Alex Khvatov:  Who is your biggest role model and why?

Brycen Alleyne:  My father because he has been through things that he tries to talk to me about to put me ahead of the game.  He has my best interest at heart and will support me with in whatever decision I make.  He will also tell me when I need to go about a situation differently.  And overall is a role model & sets the standard of what to be expected for more than just our family, but for people outside of our family as well.

Alex Khvatov:  What is your definition of a leader?

Brycen Alleyne:  I think a leader first of all has to be someone that can relate in some way to the people who is following them.  You have to be able to stand tall under fire even when you’re the one under fire.  A leader cannot be biased, but definitely needs to be able to tell someone when they are completely wrong.  Also, they cannot be afraid to lose friends during their quest of leadership and setting the standard of whatever they are leading.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your hobbies?

Brycen Alleyne:  My hobbies include working out, training younger athletes, hanging out with my friends & listening to music.

Alex Khvatov:  What do you want to do with your life after your football career is over?

Brycen Alleyne:  I want to be a strength & conditioning coach.

Alex Khvatov:  What five words best describe you?

Brycen Alleyne:  Determined, leader, hardworking, tough and dependable.

Alex Khvatov:  Who will win Super Bowl LIII in February?

Brycen Alleyne:  I’m rooting for the Eagles or the Bears.
