2019 East/West Shrine Game

West Report – Day 2 (Monday Practice)

By: Alex Khvatov

RB Devine Ozigbo (Nebraska) – has impressed me the most out of all of the backs so far.  He is a tough, hard-nosed RB with quick feet.  He finds creases in the defense.  He also consistently creates yards after contact.

WR KeeSean Johnson (Fresno State) – has separated himself from the wide receiver pack on Tuesday.  He has shown terrific hands.  He is smooth off the line and was able to fight through contact on a couple of occasions.  He located the ball well on a downfield throw and made a couple of tough catches in traffic.

OT O’Shea Dugas (LA Tech) – excels as a run blocker, but he has held up well in pass protection.  He is a big guy with great strength.  He sustains those blocks well and his hand placement has been good.

DE Derick Roberson (Sam Houston State) – Texas transfer who had his best season as a senior.  He has shown his tremendous speed off the edge and has displayed a nice counter inside move.  He was very disruptive during the team scrimmage.

DT Daniel Wise (Kansas) – had another dominant afternoon on Tuesday.  He is a man on a mission.  He used a variety of pass rush moves (swim move and a spin move), good hand usage and quickness off the snap in the one on one’s.  No one could contain him.

DT Daylon Mack (Texas A&M) – has surprised me as a pass rusher during this event.  He has played with good leverage and has displayed an explosive first step.  He had tremendous success during the one on one’s and was also wreaking havoc during the scrimmage.

LB BJ Blunt (McNeese State) – was making plays all over the field.  He shows sideline-to-sideline speed and closes quickly on the ball-carrier.  He also showed his athleticism and fluid hips in coverage.  He was the most impressive LB in the one on one’s against TE’s and RB’s.

CB Jordan Wyatt (SMU) – finally looks healthy.  He came back from two injuries and just wasn’t 100% during his senior year.  His quick feet and his ability to change directions have stood out.  He closes quickly on the ball.  He came up with an INT during the one on one’s when he jumped the short route.

P Jack Fox (Rice) – continued to shine during Tuesday’s practice.  He was dropping punts inside the 10-yard line.  His hangtime has been consistently good.
