DT Kevin Wilkins (Rutgers) Shrine Game Interview

Kevin Wilkins
Defensive Tackle

Alex Khvatov:  Describe your overall experience at the 2019 East/West Shrine Game.

Kevin Wilkins:  It is a blessing.  I never think about a lot of things like this.  When I got the invite, I was amazed.  Our season didn’t go like we wanted it to.  We went 1-11.  I didn’t really think that our guys were going to get anything.  I ended up getting hurt.  When they told me about the Shrine Game, I started training early.  I went to Newcastle, PA and have been training at Grossetti’s.  They got my knee right.  I am having un with the guys.  I am building relationships.

Alex Khvatov:  What do you want to show scouts during this week?

Kevin Wilkins:  Any doubts that they had when they were watching film on me, they won’t have any questions now.  I need to finish the ball-carrier.  I wanted to emphasize just running to the ball and finishing on plays.  Being violent and relentless.  I am going to give it my all on every play.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the highlight of your career up to this point?

Kevin Wilkins:  We have very loyal fans.  Over the past couple of years, we haven’t had the best seasons.  We fought no matter what.  It felt good to play voer there in front of those fans.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your strengths?

Kevin Wilkins:  I get upset when I am out on the edge.  I like being in the middle.  Bringing to the guys up front.

Alex Khvatov:  What areas of your game are you trying to improve upon?

Kevin Wilkins:  Consistency and pass rush.  There are a couple of plays where I look like a pass rusher and then there are plays where I don’t look like a pass rusher.  I think that I am doing well here in the one on one’s.  Remain humble and do better each day.

Alex Khvatov:  What is your biggest accomplishment in college?

Kevin Wilkins:  Changing who I was.  I was a little immature the first two years.  My last three years with Coach Parker, we all grew up together.  The bond that I have with the guys on the team.
