LB BJ Blunt (McNeese State) Shrine Game Interview

BJ Blunt
Linebacker

McNeese State

Alex Khvatov:  How did you wind up at McNeese State?

BJ Blunt:  I was actually highly recruited coming out of high school.  I committed to Arizona State.  Mike Norvell recruited me.  He is at Memphis right now.  My grades were terrible.  I had a 1.6 GPA.  I wound up at McNeese.

Alex Khvatov:  Did the GPA improve?

BJ Blunt:  Not my first two semesters.  I wound failing out of McNeese State.  I wound up going home and working for a year.  I was sandblasting and painting.  I got a call from Garden City CC.  I flew out there and made the team.  I had eight INT’s and made All-American.  I had a bunch of offers.  I got a call from a RB’s coach at Texas Tech.  They told me that I wouldn’t be able to play till December.  I was cool with it, but the coaching staff wasn’t sure if they would be there next year.  He got me linked up with McNeese State.  They took me back happily.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your strengths?

BJ Blunt:  Sideline-to-sideline speed.  I am special teams’ guru.  I will do whatever to get on the field.  I will do what no one else wants to do.

Alex Khvatov:  What areas of your game are you trying to improve upon?

BJ Blunt:  Flexibility.  Diagnosing plays quicker.  Making plays quicker.  I want to heighten my value.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the highlight of your career up to this point?

BJ Blunt:  11 sacks, 20 TFL’s and 107 tackles in 2018.

Alex Khvatov:  What one word best describes you?

BJ Blunt:  Eager.
